[quote:0910962078="BBC WORLD" pid="846429"]Not a major issue, but I was a tad surprised that BBC World News led with the Jimmy Savile/BBC Enquiry story in the bulletin just now. Whilst a serious subject, I'm not entirely sure it's of such major Global significance ahead of other current events.

Furthermore, the lighting and camera angles on the bulletin were a bit strange just now. Almost as if they were trying to hide most of the studio and use very tight crops.[/quote:0910962078]

World Service were leading with it on Newshour at 2pm (UK) today and I was surprised when I heard it there as well. I guess the BBC are trying to be as transparent as possible. However, I do think that the global news services have to truly reflect the global agenda. While the BBC should make use of its extensive UK resources, it should not give un-due weight to domestic stories.

The World angle is how it reflects upon the BBC rather than the Saville bit in particular. Just because something happens in the UK doesn't mean it's irrelevent and if anything the manner in which the BBC is so open will likely resonate well against other media organisations around the world who wouldn't even consider reporting on criticism of themselves.

But what do I know, back on topic, Telula McgIntychops on The Hub.

It's actually probably Tim Willcox, from the sounds of it. I mean, he did the 9am hour and the 2pm hour, and now he's doing the Hub. He's well dedicated, innit!!

From Metropol: " I'm trying a new concept where I end every post with a rota comment. My theory is that the cretins will only notice this and therefore won't realise that we are daring to stray from their self-appointed forum raison d'être.

This means that simply by ending our posts with tripe like that we can have a normal conversation without getting in trouble from the rota police."

Aha! A cunning stunt!

What's your source? Interesting move. Will this happen with the move to NBH and what will replace it?

I hope Nik is put to good use in his new time slot. The Hub really suited him.

So back to where he was in 2000/2001, then! He used to take over at about 10:00 GMT and anchored the bulletins through to early afternoon. Then Stephen Cole took over the reins after him. I think it was around about the time The World Today came back that the shifts got shaken up and Stephen moved to mornings with Nik taking his late afternoon/early evening position which he has held to this day.

Funny how BBC World goes in cycles with its programming. In the 1990s they had all sorts of strands before cutting back to just standard news bulletins. Gradually they built it up again and now they're axing again. I wonder if this will end up with some of the others going too eventually (GMT, Impact etc.)?

Interesting change, I don't mind it. I think they need less of these specially named bulletins and more regular newshours. Hopefully some double anchoring re-surfaces again with the move to BH.

EDIT: I also hope they drop the name Impact, both it and The Hub sound silly for BBC. Only GMT is good imo.

They've modified the Breakfiller a bit. They've slapped the logo on it and blurred the video behind the white boxes and made it a bit more transparent.

I also hope they change the countdowns soon, I'm tired of the current hash job they have, 2 tracks, no beams in sync with music, **** footage. None which is as good as the original panning time lapse stuff. Surely if they're going to go HD they'd need to modify the countdowns anyway. Here's hoping. Its just so boring now.

Heres a video from the GMT feed of the channel from an online stream...

I personally think the modifications to the white boxes is not an improvement but I do like how they've added a BBC Sport type moving background in them... as you can see its just promos promos promos oh and one news and business slide... this is what it was pretty like on my asia pacific feed. I want weather and time check etc back in it...
