Pete, I think it was used for more than just before Dateline London. As I recall (and admittedly, it is going back quite a bit now!) it was used for the bottom of the hour summaries when there were two presenters (ie during daytime and evenings). The other bigger area was only really used for the TOTH heads (when there were two presenters) and for interview/chats as well as business and sport.

The bit where the video wall is now used to be a very small standy up pod. It was only really used for headline updates before Dateline (which used the main desk).

Oh yes! I'd forgotten about that, it was quite strange indeed.
And I'm not imagining that they used to take the smaller pod camera out into the newsroom occasionally am I? I'm sure I saw that happen sometimes, though I can't think what for now.

So it was.
In the latter part of the News 24 days the larger area was also used for slightly odd VR presentations with things coming out the floor.

It was a very useless pod tbh. Nothing of great interest in there and soon became pretty much unused. I seem to recall the sport quarter past headlines were done from there, though.

Yes, I think you're right there. The full sport bulletins came from the other larger area but the quick headlines did come from the pod. It wasn't in a terribly good position really as the presenter faced one of the corridors that led towards the control room so it was quite noisy as I recall.

I seem to recall that's what was about to happen when I took that photo - Peter Dobbie was preparing to read the headlines and you can just make out his co-presenter Liz Pike sitting at the desk.
And in the far distance you can just see the other larger pod area.

Also, the half past headlines came from there - thrown to by one presenter at the desk and then read by the other. Again, didn't last long.
