I'm glad to hear Anita's happy in her new role. I believe a lot of "stuff" went on at BBC World in the mid-2000s, which I'm fairly sure resulted in a lot of the old guard moving on. Sadly, I don't think the channel has ever recovered. I just knew that whenever I tuned in it would be someone with authority and style. Weekends were always a highlight, with the mainstays of Finighan, McNaught and Embley. And who could forget weekday afternoons with Nisha Pillai??? Heaven............

Yes. A lot of people complained of lack of resources, shortage of staff, slashed budgets, shoddy fact finding and a general diminished quality, compared with the late 90s and early 00s.

I think it's a bit better now, though.

A bit of a mess to the start of the BBC World bulletin shown on BBC Two on Monday 27th Aug -

Whoops! Sophie Ikenye anchoring today's Focus on Africa, was astoned as "Komla Dumor - follow on @bbckomladumor"

I love the attention to detail from the World Gallery who always make such errors!

This could be me getting mixed up here, but a while back I seem to remember some insider on this forum saying that presenters on News 24 used to Aston their own names. Circa 2004 when they were in N8.

Aha, which explains one I saw last week: "Super Smooth Tim Willcox".

So, Sophie forgot she was Sophie and decided to call herself Komla for the night?

Far from doilesque!

Edit: In fact, In Andrew's post above, the clip also has Geeta's name spelt wrognly as well! She's "Geta", apparnetly!

And the number of times I've seen her referred to as Geeta Guru-Mur p hy.... Rolling Eyes

Serious question... do you think there's been a correlation between the increase in mistakes and the diversifying of the schedule? Maybe it's just my memory playing tricks on me, but I don't recall there being too many mistakes when the channel was just BBC News every hour rather than all these different programmes with their own graphics, music, titles, lighting etc etc. It must get awfully confusing in the control room.

CNN never spell their anchors names incorrectly.

I see the colored backdrop lighting in N8 is back with a vengeance today, even sharper and deeper than before. It had been absent for about a week on all the programmes I saw and they ice white backdrop was being used on all bulletins.

Just woke up to a remarkably deep blue WBR with Aaron, and now we are with Martine Dennis for the new news and sports segment and they are using the very red backdrop normally reserved for WNT. The morning bulletins don't normally use any coloring in fact.

I'm going to miss N8.
