It's worth noting that the overnights are now branded as 'BBC News' rather than BBC World News, as it was yesterday.

I thought that it would be, but it's still showing on the Virgin EPG as BBC World News.

Mike Embley has started tonight and said "It's good to be back on PBS".

What exactly is PBS? I would have thought that America would have access to BBC World News anyway.

PBS always used to show it on its affiliates, but I think Comcast has done a deal with World News to put it on there TV Service

PBS Stations still carry BBC WORLD NEWS at different times through out the day. World is on Verizon full time, Comcast in Major cities, COX, and several other smaller cable providers.
Comcast should carry world full-time by the end of the year.

15 million homes in total have access to BBC World News as a result of the Comcast deal. Verizon, Cox and some smaller cable providers did provide 24-hr coverage, but the Comcast deal doubled their reach and 24-hr presense.

BBC World News bulletins have always aired on PBS dating back to 1998. In 2007, their relationship with PBS deteoriated as a result of the launch of WNA on BBC America - "home of BBC News in the US". Some PBS stations even cut BBC News programming. When WNA was removed from the BBC America line-up last year, the BBC had to back-peddle and re-organize their programming aimed for PBS and BBC World News Channel audience (US viewers with 24 hr access).

WNA needs a better name and its def time for new music/graphics...

Has the Newsday title card changed from 'BBC News' to 'BBC World News'?
BBC World News might see a bit of a drop in viewership as it seems that it has now become a subscription channel rather then a free stream on Livestation.

Tim Willcox has just done the trail for World News Today from within a well sunlit and pale blue walled newsroom. Which newsroom is that? Never seen it used before. Looked more like a typical "office" as opposed to a newsroom office, if you know what I mean.....

Bloody hell. HardTalk with Sarah Montague, interviewing Paddy Ashdown. Explosive. Great tv. Kudos to Sarah for navigating the sea of pomposity.

Newsday to launch on Radio to merge Network Africa and The World Today. To be broadcast for five and a half hours each morning hosted from Johannesburg by Lerato Mbele formally of CNBC Africa and in London.

Clearly a cost saving - in effect removing one programme. The World Today has a large roata of presenters as well, so it will be interesting to see what happens to all of them. I am looking forward to hearing this. 5 and a half hours is a long programme for two people to present. Currently the world today has three who do it, with them taking an hour of in turn. But I can't help feeling that a very specialised regional programme dominating a large part of a global network's schedule may loose listeners in other places. They are saying it will be the biggest radio programme in the world.

(I have copied this into Birdsong as it is a radio discussion).

I watched 'Focus on Africa' earlier on and I have to say it really was very good. BBC World definitely benefits from the different news agenda, and it presented a lot of information that had previously passed me by.

The graphics are a bit MEH, but putting an African slant on the David Lowe's music is brilliant.

Komla Dumor is superb and they should definitely up his programme to an hour.

Now problems... The Sport Today logo is truly truly aweful. Why is it not rectangular? ...and why is the programme not called Sportsworld to echo the radio show?

Actually, on the World Service, the sports news bulletins through the week are called Sport Today. Sportsworld is the live coverage which dominates the weekend schedule. But I agree - the logo is appauling.

Big Komla must be fed up. His programme has been riddled with tech issues for the last three days, mainly reports that have failed to play.

Lyse Doucet on The Hub tonight read out the same story twice, the second time after a report had already been played about the story. Coming back from Jill McGiverings report, the auto cue decided it wanted to repeat itself.

A bit of chaos in the World gallery this week?
