So I'm guessing Kasia is covering both Newsday and 'World News' on Friday mornings, hence the reference to staying on after Newsday. I wonder if they'll go for a specific weekend (overnight) presenter, since Kasia Madera and Rachael Hodges no longer seem to present Saturday and Sunday mornings respectively.

Re Mike Embley and the graveyard shift: its only the graveyard shift in London, but the output in the USA is prime evening slot, which has a large audience, one would imagine. As noted above, Mike is hugely adored by the US audience, who perceive him in true anchorman style and truly British. Its quite remarkable just how well liked he is there! So, whilst it physically means a nightshift for his body clock, it does put him out there in a high profile primetime US slot, a Middle Easter breakfast slot, and lunchtime news in New Zealand! Loads of exposure..........and, the pictures above of BH are just great. Bloody fantastic. Thanks to jpeg and aconnell for making this World News fan very happy this morning!

This primetime US strategy seems a bit half hearted when on Friday nights there will be some 10 minute bulletins still

All I mean is that I would be very surprised if they sat Mike Embley in a studio in London at 2am when the target audience was in America. Much better to have Mike Embley broadcasting from Washington.

CNNI shifted their European breakfast output from London to Atlanta a couple of years ago (broadcasts 1-3am Atlanta time) but that move seems to have worked out well enough

Though I guess the question is how presenters perform in the middle of the night, compared to late in the evening. Some manage it very well - you could barely tell that Babita Sharma or Kasia Madera were presenting at 3am - but for others it seems to be more noticeable.

One certain Mr. Clarence Mitchell immediately springs to mind. But, let's not go there............

So guys here are a few images I found of the new Broadcasting House from twitter. The pictures were taken by staff who recently made a visit to the building.

Rendezvous with Zeinab Badawi.

Comes from the same studio setting each week, but they keep changing the chairs and seating. Today, in the edition currently being aired and featuring Cherie Blair QC as a guest, they appear to be using the BBC Breakfast red sofa, or at least, a small segment of it.

Changing chairs aside, Rendezvous is a thoroughly enjoyable program.

After having Prince Charles doing the weather, today on BBC World we have polyglot Michael Portillo presenting a documentary strand about Europe.

A bit like Charles doing the weather, Portillo is actually quite good at this. He appears to be a natural and faces into the camera quite well.

Let's have more non news presenters doing this.

He's done a couple of series called 'Great British Railway Journeys', in which he travels all around the country comparing the railways of modern times to how it was during the Victoria times. He's really excellent on this in terms of presentation, and it's really interesting too. I've always rated Michael highly as a broadcaster in general, and you're absolutely right to praise him!

Just had this presenter on BBC World News presenting Sport Today. Maryam Moshiri (who is currently presenting) credited her as Frances. Have we seen her before? She was very good if it's her first time.
