If those involved are happy to do 6 hours on air, why not? It's what happens at weekends

Wasn't the old overnight shift almost 6 hours (01.00 - 06.00 CET)

Saturday - Sunday overnight is from midnight to 6am UK time (the overnight presenter does an hour on domestic before the simulcast starts at 1am).

Yes, at the weekend all the shifts are six hours long. But can they really justify during the week having some shifts that are one and a half hours long with others six? If world news is to be a truly global channel it can't just leave one person to stumble through most of the night. The same standards that apply to afternoons need to be brought to nights.

Do we know if these schedule changes are linked to the move into Broadcasting House?

No they aren't.

The 0200-0500 programmes are being targeted at PBS in the states, as it the second half of WNA. They will have their own presenter, different to the Newsday one, someone who is well known and well regarded by the PBS audience.

Picture of Studio C in Broadcasting House, which I think I am right in saying will be the World News set.

Just for easiness:

OMG. Beautiful. Simply beautiful.

Not too keen on the blue though. The lighting colour scheme looks a bit like the previous look of 5 News.

Makes sense... but only if he's moving to Washington to present it.

Why would Mike want to do the graveyard shift? Seems like a step backward to me.

It also makes sense if they want to use him as the 2nd presenter on World News America.

PS... had a nerdgasm when I saw the Studio C / B pics.

It's only the graveyard shift in the UK. As Marcus pointed out, the 0200-0500 shift is going to be targeted at the USA, where it's prime time evening at that time.

All I mean is that I would be very surprised if they sat Mike Embley in a studio in London at 2am when the target audience was in America. Much better to have Mike Embley broadcasting from Washington.

Will the current Asia Business Report be changed to World Business Report between 2am-5am?
