Nice look back at different sets World used, thanks. Cool 2006 one is my least favorite, the glass was too frosted, newsroom looked really bad behind it.

Pointless post above. It's easy to find out the details off Google without having to look on that horrid powerpoint job for any information.

Not to mention that half of it is wrong, and there's great chunks missing.

Just come across a youtube channel called EuroPAL625 who has some incredible HQ clips of BBC News dating as far back as 2004. Look at this little gem.

Adnan Nawaz Looks like he's in N9 again this weekend, just out of interest what kind of maintenance needs to be carried out in N8? At a guess it would be just about everything, but just wondered out of curiosity.

Also whilst N8 can't be used, why can't they use N6 over night? It seems better equipped with the screens etc.

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just curious!

Dunno exactly, but I guess it could be anything and everything from hardware to software. Light bulbs. Telephone lines. Floor polishing. Safety inspections. Window and glass cleaning. Communication checks. Repairing cracks on the floor. Cracks on the ceiling. Sorting out acoustic problems. Testing of the fire sprinklers. Pest control. oiling the wheels and tracks of the overhead and floor mounted cameras. Cable inspections. Computer replacements. And possibly (probably) offsite switchovers which don't necessarily involve the set itself, but the back office stuff which renders the set fully operational (I.e. computer servers, music machines, gallery equipment, coffee machines, donut machines............)

But hey, what do I know, Sam. I'm probably only 5% correct in all of the above, and 95% pure speculation. Wink

And the answer - Anti Static Spaying

Anti Static Spaying???? Please *do* explain what that means, Marcus. Does it involve rubber of some sort? (genuine question).

The N8 set, being made of some kind of perspex, is notorious for giving presenters and guests nasty static electric shocks. It has to be sprayed with an anti static spray at regular intervals to try to reduce the build up of static electricity.

Laughing Shame we've never seen such a shock on-screen.

Wow. That will please many, many people on here who are (like me) frequently wondering why we dip into N9 now and again.

Static spraying. Would never have guessed that at all. Thanks for the info.

Could this be the last time they do it before the big move?

Perhaps one of the last times they move to N9 but considering the News Channel will be using N8 for certain hours once World News moves out, probably not the last time they do maintenance.
