Was the thing used in this:

1 : An actual model and if so what happened to it.
2 : Did David Lowe compose the music or not

Highly doubt it would be a model.

I'm not sure. I am most certainly no expert on this, but they used models for the bbc idents quite a while back.

Yes in the 90s and before (even in the 90s I can only think of the 2s). Not 2002 when this programme launched.

David Lowe did compose the music and no it's not a model!

It isn't a model, it's just a CGI model.

Just be clear, is everyone saying it's CGI because they know it is, or just because it seems like it probably would be?

It looks like a physical model to me (a better quality video would probably be more obvious either way).
bilky asko and WW Update gave kudos

Looks like a physical model to me too, but it seems more likely that it was CGI. Maybe if it was made in 1992 but I'm not sure about something made in 2002.

Looks like a physical model shot on film to me, especially noticeable on the final frame it holds on.

Interesting that the logo on that copy is in the 1997 stripped style, the version they used on air was stacked.

Whether CGI or not, it was a very pretty, if abstract... thing.

The current BBC Three idents use a physical model.

Not sure that version ever went on air. The full titles only had 'BBC' on them because the programme had a different name on BBC Four and BBC World. It was when it turned green and called 'The World' that the name of the programme went on the full titles, not just the sting.
