Adrian would be better there permanently. Sara Coburn is suited to early hours broadcasting anyway. She's been doing it for years.

I notice some unusual camera shots in yesterdays WORLD news, presented by Nik Gowing and Jamie Robertson. The camera was panned just inches above the desk and just below the business presenters plasma, giving an unusal panning view across the desk to Nik who was introducing Jamie. It also gave a truer impression of the actual shape and width of the desk, especially the wooden portion, which we can now see is old fashioned and grainy............

Wonder why they used this particular shot. Normally the introductiisn are done from the other end of the desk where the newsreader sits.

Yes but you can beat a bit of Bundock!

I'm not sure if you understand the term panning? Was the camera acutally panning across the desk or was it just framed from a different position, it also sounds like a wide angle lense.

BBC WORLD once used a desk side view instead of the ceiling shot of the studio at the bulletins' opening. We could see the presenter preparing the scripts and then the camera "fades" to the main presenting shot, quite nice I think. although not as grand looking at from the high shot...

BBC World used that shot for a few bulletins before reverting back to the high ceiling shot...

It'd be nice if they could spruce up the set maybe with a bright new desk without a gap in the middle and maybe get some decent projectors too. The metal rail should go perhaps replaced with a simple backing screen that is blured out in red and white. The current backdrop is fantastic so that should stay but maybe brighten it up and tidy it up too.

It is fantastic, but they need to switch on the newsroom's circular light, at the moment the news presenters side of the newsroom is well lit indeed, and makes for a great shot, while the backdrop on the other side of the newsroom for the business and sports presenters looks very dark in comparison, it's particularly noticeable during World Business Report., where the backdrop looks very dark indeed.

BTW Why has the Sport Today set been removed?

Thanks

The main problem with the BBC world newsroom set is simply that the whole area wasn’t designed to be used as a TV studio IMO. Besides, the lighting issue has been discussed several times on this forum, and the reason why some areas are darker than others is because the whole room doesn’t have windows, so the whole place gets very hot

Anyway, I do hope that the studio gets a good re-design; the only things that actually need to be changed are the plasma screens, the rail, and the business/sport backdrops. I have also noticed that the studio is too small, but it doesn’t mean the space can be well used.

Noticed the lighting issue on TWT this morning - Eades looked totally washed out and the fact that we was wearing a bright white shirt and brighter pink glossy tie meant that the glare (for me) was impossible to watch.

On another subject, Astons/titles are a mess on World. There was something on TWT this morning abou the Spanish Government ,and the title read "SPAINISH GOVT". Also, the wording font size was far too big and was partially obscured by the permanent logo.

I have noticed a lot on BBCW that the titles and astons are a real mess. Incorrect, wrong size, poor timing, failure to disolve at the correct time.................surely someone can get a grip of this!!

You mean it's happening really really soon, please say that nice white desk is going to make it's international appearance!

The nice white desk is not nice at all, and the laptops are a real cluttering mess. I don't want my BBC World news presented from a circular white frosted table - I want them to have a desk similar in style to the CNN International one in Atlanta, with a big black frontage and logo. It's far more serious looking than the BBC and N24's internet cafe style mess.

The N24 studio is a mess of cables, screens, printers and stools. I hate the idea of news being presented by someone either standing up or perched on a stool. It should be done Burnet and Gall style from behind a large steel battleship style desk, with loud drums and bong style musical fanfare, as opposed to garage style music that BBC news seems to generically employ, and which should be confined to night clubs.

Please bring back some seriousness to TV News and please please don't dumb down BBC World by making it take on the appearance of N24!

Although the news content may still be of a high standard, it is somewhat diluted when the viewer is more concentrated on trying to figure out how all that frosted glass is put together!!

Where are Burnet and Gall now anyway?
