I'm not sure if you understand the term panning? Was the camera acutally panning across the desk or was it just framed from a different position, it also sounds like a wide angle lense.

I notice some unusual camera shots in yesterdays WORLD news, presented by Nik Gowing and Jamie Robertson. The camera was panned just inches above the desk and just below the business presenters plasma, giving an unusal panning view across the desk to Nik who was introducing Jamie. It also gave a truer impression of the actual shape and width of the desk, especially the wooden portion, which we can now see is old fashioned and grainy............
