The titles for One News seem interesting! Care to describe about it? I see two man standing on a cliff or something?

Always happy to oblige for you, Mr. Hatts.

Can anyone tell me who the duty newscaster was last night on BBC World after Lucy Hockings finished her shift? I fell asleep. Also, who preceded Lucy?

Good to hear that Stephen Cole will once again be back amongst the ranks of BBC World News presenters on a more regular basis. I nevre used to like him. Now I find him to be quite palatable actually.

Also, any truth in the rumour that Keshini Navaratnam and Mike Embley are to replace David Eades on TWT, with David going to the late shift in place of Mike???

Well, wouldn't be a bad decision because David Eades is so wooden and is never able to develop any on-screen chemistry with the business/sport presenter. On the late shift however there is no business/sport presenter and so I think he could be quite good there.

Interestingly in the last two weeks David only presented TWT on Monday-Wednesday, Thursday & Friday has been done by Lucy Hockings who I find is a very good news presenter that should be used more often BTW.

Well, I really hope so. I hate waking up with David Eades's face.

I like her a lot too, but why does she move her shoulders in that very odd way at the end of bulletins?

That was because it was pre-recorded and played out by World Pres. BBC1 needed N6 for their lunchtime bulletin, so Lucy had pre-recorded the bulletin to be played out on World at the top of the hour. The news studios at the BBC are all in widescreen, but World Pres is not, hence why that bulletin was in 4:3.

Sorry to go back a couple of pages but I've not been online since Saturday morning...

Anyway, and sorry to sound thick here, if World Pres only operates in 4:3, why is almost everything in 14:9 with black bars? If no-one is ever going to see it in full 16:9, why not just frame things in 4:3?

The newsroom is 16:9 but Pres is 4:3. So, when the 16:9 signal goes through Pres, it is converted to 14:9. Why the newsroom went widescreen is anybody's guess. Can anyone shed any light on why the newsroom went widescreen but Pres has stayed 4:3?

One would presume so N24 could use it happily.

Sounds a likely explanation, although I still don't see why they don't crop the picture to 4:3 rather than 14:9.

Was News 24 16:9 from the beginning in 1997? If so, then that's probably a likely explanation because BBC World News went widescreen in 1998 when they moved into N9.

News 24 would presumably have had 16:9 facilities from the start, although initially it was only available on analogue cable in 14:9. Only when Sky Digital launched sometime later was N24 available in full 16:9.

When News 24 started, it was one of the first to broadcast from the all new digital Newsroom and therefore i believe has had widescreen capability from the start, even though it launched on Digital cable and was only available in 4:3. I would think the national news studio was equipped with widescreen technology when it launched in N6 but did not broadcast in widescreen for sometime. (this is my understanding and not the actual schedule of events, im sure noggin will be able to confirm for us).
