TOG is essentially just a machine on a network. This can be operated from any studio remotly if it's set up to do so.

I have updated the title of this thread, to bear resemblence to something that I am now hearing at the top of every bulletin. The whole new BBC World studio and set is now starting to grow on me. I love the classy plasmas and the drop-ins used on Asia Today. I alos now love the new backdrop featured on WBR in the evening double header from New York and London. And isn't Manisha Tank just continuing to excel and develop into a highly watchable anchor? She is extremely calm and professional at the newsdesk.

It was also good to see Anya Sitaram last night as relief presenter on BBCW. They have been using a real variety of newscasters to replace the now departed Ice Maiden. (I have now seen Lindsey Brancher, Mike Embley, Ben Brown, David Jessel and Tim Willcox all standing in on the weekend shift formerly presented by Anita).

Just wish they would do something about the wrap up though. I like to have a wide studio shot and music before heading into the weather.

Still, it's all being done in the interests of commercial viability. But, what I can't understand is that where I am watching from (MIddle East) most of the breaks are filled out with BBC World ads for upcoming programmes, and NOT by externally paid advertising.

Cheers for now,
James

Yes the set is growing on me now to I actually quite like it. The problem I have over here in New Zealand is the fact that we are 13hours ahead of the UK and what we see from 1:00pm NZT (0000GMT) is Alistair Yates then when TWT Starts for us at 6pm in NZ is a pain because our One News Hour @ 6 is on and I dont wanna miss that because there presentation is the best and there set is most likely one of the best around. So I'm mixed up and have to make a choice... but in the end I choose BBC World...

Sorry to bore you all!!!

These are some shots of One News before June 2004

This one below is a shot from the front of the set and this is what we saw after and before June so there has been no change.

Hmm why don't you watch each side equally? Say 4days of One News Hour and 3 Days of TWT (Wed, Thurs and Fri) ? The studio for One News changes only the colour I suppose?

I think it's up to the satellite/cable provider whether they put ads on during commercial breaks, from where I'm watching, UK, sometimes ads are put on, sometimes they're not, and when the ads have finished they abruptly cut into the breakfiller or countdown, or maybe that's not the question you were asking...

Well thats a good idea! thanks... The One News set is just nothing because the colour you see is from colourered things on lights that makes a different colour. so after One News changed in June this year they changed the lighting colour to match the colour used in there graphics astons etc... ABS Business uses this set but the colour of the lights are different to go in the theme with there look. so they are black white and yellow. So they light the studio up in yellow and white which looks quite good.

He is 4 images of the starting titles of one news now.

this starting is about 12 seconds long and has much more in it but this jus gives you an idea.

The titles for One News seem interesting! Care to describe about it? I see two man standing on a cliff or something?

Does the thread title have to be in capitals?

Can't you just call the thread 'BBC World' - then everyone would know instantly what it is about?

World Pres is the area that creates the channel - co-ordinating the output of the World (and this weekend national news) studio along with playing out the recorded programmes, top of the hour countdowns, sponsorship stings, ad-breaks that are inserted in London (I think - at one stage this was done off site).

Yes, originally the BBC weren't allowed to handle ads on site so the european ad breaks were inserted (and uplinked) by Thames/Pearson (who co-owned the channel at the time)

I'm not sure Thames ever co-owned BBC World - though you're right in that they were contracted to playout European ads and uplink the channel to Europe. Thames did co-own BBC Prime in it's early years however!
