That was because it was pre-recorded and played out by World Pres. BBC1 needed N6 for their lunchtime bulletin, so Lucy had pre-recorded the bulletin to be played out on World at the top of the hour. The news studios at the BBC are all in widescreen, but World Pres is not, hence why that bulletin was in 4:3.

Well it's actually the place where the network is controlled. It plays out all the recorded programmes, looks after all the ad breaks etc. N9 provides all the News inserts and is taken into World Pres as an outside source.

Most channels work this way. There is a pres area for BBC1 -4 in the same building as World Pres.

The exception is News24 which acts as it's own pres and is fed direct to the transmitter.

Editorial suite is a strange description in respect to the presentation operation for a news channel.

World Pres is the area that creates the channel - co-ordinating the output of the World (and this weekend national news) studio along with playing out the recorded programmes, top of the hour countdowns, sponsorship stings, ad-breaks that are inserted in London (I think - at one stage this was done off site)

The actual News editorial decisions are taken in the World Newsroom and gallery - and not in the Pres area - though Pres would be involved in discussions when breaking into recorded programmes were likely.

I noticed that sometimes on BBC World when I watch on my .. Non-wide screen tv, the image appears stretched and stuffs, the World logo and the straps are out of the screen partly, so I switched my 4:3 TV to display in 16:9 and it appears well.

I'd like to know how World can operate the TOG in the National News studio, I thought the National News set was not equipped with TOG, but Big Ted.
