Another "HEADLINES Set-up Don't Touch" moment with Ms Brancher!

+ earlier a nice dynamic junction speling misstake:
NEXT: WORLD BUSINES REPORT

Also recently I saw: NEXT: "COUNTDOWN - 2003 REB" before top of hour

It all seems such a mess right now. Marcus - please don't get offended again - I know the gallery has too much to do and things sometimes go wrong and it's humans etc - but once standards slip it just becomes "normal". It never happened on World Service radio.. mistakes are rare, not hourly.

I agree with you, the whole channel looks a mess. I understand all the directors, journalists and presenters tend to agree. The directors are all so stressed out coping with all the backtiming they are all due to have nervous breakdowns any day now

Is it me or did they turn off some lights in the World newsroom? It seems to me that it's much darker tonight than it used to be yesterday.

I feel so bad for the staff at World. Marcus, from your sources at the BBC, do have any idea on how they might plan to fix these problems?

My suggestion

Arrow bring back all the stings
Arrow limit each news bulletin to 1 proper commercial break and one opt out for regions where advertising is sold. For ex: ALL regions can see the breakfiller during the proper break and during the opt out, news will carry on but a channel like BBC America can opt out to show ads.
Arrow Better yet, instead of taking many breaks, just have one long one instead using the proper stings that go with doing that

That would be best

I don't think one long commercial break is enough for an advertisement funded channel ; however; three breaks is just too much, specially when they show that dynamic junction that repeats the same information every time they go into a break. My suggestion will be to have two commercial breaks during bbc world news @ :13 and :19 ( presenter will announce the biz and sport highlights), at minute 15 have the headline summary, and go straight to bussiness, then more news, then break, and then after the break, sport, then instead of a final check of the headlines, some more news in between, a weather summary, and then presenter will have a proper closing before :27(presenter will announce the following programme or special event that may happen after the break), then a 3 minute break for advertisement, quick sting past 30, then a summary of the main news( 2 minutes at least) followed by the programme in question, and then have a 5 minute break past :55 for advertisement, monthly highlights, weather update, etc. I will also suggest a little change on the format of BBC world's website, it certainly needs a big update .

Thanks for the comment Yaloh, I wish I could work for the BBC (hopefully one day). Anyway, I am e-mailing the suggestion to the proper people at BBC worl/worldwide.If I receive any reply, I will post it here. Also , if any insider has suggestions where else I may e-mail , please let me know.

BTW, I must say the studio is ok, I do not like the main presenter's background and that plasma , a holoscreen would have look far better . Also the presentation @ TOTH is excellent and dynamic in my opinion.

I really don't see the point of this shot and the plasma graphic....

They are framing for the plasma but feeding the plasma with a graphic based on the wall behind it, this is a pointless waste of a plasma and they may as well just stay on an MCU as we're not gaining anything from this shot. Why can't they use a 'The World Today' full frame graphic in there? Also this business of presenting WBR from 'The World' set is rubbish, I really don't like it - I mean why spend all that money on a new set but present half of the days output from an old, badly lit box at the end of the newsroom or 'The World' set as its known.

And today they had changed it, all the shots where there were plasmas before had been changed to mid-shots not including the plasma, not exactly dynamic but its a start.

A nice end to The World Today with a bit of box banter from David and Sally or "the BBC's global two" but I just have to stress how important I think it is for them to bring Sally back to the main desk for WBR or at least the end of the programme. The two-way boxes are badly desinged, the font doesn't match the font of the titles and it seems crazy to split them up when they are in the same damn studio.

It would be best to have them at the same desk. I agree. I wonder why they don't just have the WBR at the same desk, and use the same type of drop-in that they do for Asia Today. It looks quite good.

I am sure that we will see many gradual tweaks and changes over the course of the next few weeks. It's inevitable, given that all will be learning all the way.

Do you think BBC World/N24 should follow CNN & Sky by having a channel voice (I know World uses an announcer), but what about at the top of news bulletins?

I think it would sound and look a lot more professional and slicker if the presenters didn't have to waste time name-checking etc.

Here's a quick example of how it could sound...

I think it's not particularly a bad idea to have WBR coming from a different set but Sally could return to the newsdesk for the signoff with David IMO.
It could be like this:
Arrow Sally hands over to Tanya for the Nasdaq markets
Arrow Then she returns to the newsdesk and does the currencies/global 30 etc. from the newsdesk
Arrow Then signoff with David, wide shot of the studio etc, closing titles.
