Wow, impressive. But I still think the desk looks weird. News24's desk is nicer... Shocked News24's desk curve in at the bottom, World's straight down...

It's not as curved as it looks (have a look at the photo on the News 24 Homepage), it's just the camera angle that gives that illussion. They are probably designed to the same standard although the world desk doesn't look as transparent.

Hmm, agree. and the white light tubes are gone.... No wonder it looks weird. Laughing

I don't think it's completely finished yet. It's nice, but I think that having WBR in a seperate area is only tempory.

Also, I don't think the plasma screen next to the presernter is linked up yet. Notice how they didn't talk to any correspondents?

Hopefully we'll see Sally return to the main studio. I must say though, it's a shame they had to change the set. I prefere the old one.

I think they use the "The World" set for WBR that the news presenter can remain at the newsdesk for the half-past news-updates.

Hey - I can only hope that the reason for Sally being shunted off for the WBR was temporary measure, I really didn't like it. Some of the best banter and hand-overs come at the news throw at 45 minutes past and at 55 at the end of the programme, hence why I think boxing the presenters up especially on 'The World Today' just DOESN'T work.

Again, I have to agree that I kind of miss the old set already as it had a certian charm - but I'm all for moving on and this looks nice and fresh. Just watching hour two this morning and have for the first time caught this dreadful break businness that you've all been talking about...

Francis' sport ends without a handback, then the mix back off the break to David with pictures of the last sports story, then they play the non-branded break bumper with no sound then cut back to Davi d and mix off to the break! THERE MUST BE A BETTER WAY!

EDIT: Twice now at the start of WBR Sally has been supered wrong at 0530GMT she was Atif Darr and at 0630GMT she was Real Madrid... Rolling Eyes

Thinking about it you may be right, it gives continuity for the rest of the day, Sally's WBR set has special gfx background (special in that they have clearly been made for that set in mind) and why on the first day would they move Sally off if they were going to change it next week or something.

Yaloh didn't you e-mail BBC World recently? If so could you PM me the e-mail address. Thanks.

Gone are the days we see the signature 'television bars' down the presenter's shoulder...

Ummm year I don not like the new set that much but I will have to get used to it eventually. Is the set infront of the newsroom or are they using CSO's or Rear Projection? I like the new plasmas but dont like the idea of using newswalls on the plasma. has the newsroom been renovated as well? I have only looked @ these pictures I cant watch till 1100GMT.

I also dont think its a good idea to have WBR, Asia Today in other newsrooms. And are they going to get another plasma for the other side of the set?? When I watch it later today (tonight for me) i will be watching closely .

I like the new set...but still, that plasma screen should be replaced by a holoscreen, the desk is ok , I would have prefered to have 2 litlle desks on the same set,so on the left side you'll have world news, and on the other it would be the other programmes. At least the studio looks brighter and bigger.

Yes I agree they are what appealed to me and thats what I remember liking the most when they slightly modified it a couple of years ago.

Since the set has so much more room around it now I don't see why programmes such as the WBR couldnt come from the main presenters chair. It worked well in the past and would look better than The World set.

Where did Sport Today come from? I couldn't tell exactly but it looked like The World set.

I wonder why it is that the plasma screen has a faux-wall image instead of something related to BBC News. I think the reason could be that the red/orange and black of the titles and graphic does not quite match the red and white of the newsroom. I suppose the wall image is quite a good idea as it is another distinguishing feature between BBCW and N24. Something that I hope is done in the new newsroom is that they use more varied camera angles as previously things could be a little staid.

EDIT: I just saw the start of the 09:00GMT broadcast with Lucy Hockings. I have to say I think the way in which the she introduced herself and the programme before reading the headlines was good. I also think having the business presenter there at the same time is a great idea, after the titles Lucy went straight into the news. It all feels like a much smoother way of doing things actually and I have to say I am all for it.
