I loved the BBC World Newsroom as it was, it didn't need any renewal.

But it was too dark, the newsroom lights were never turned on!

Well surely just turning the lights on is cheaper than re-building the set and adding real daylight to the newsroom, with the white and N24 esq style and silver chrome.

This is the BBC! There's probably less red tape associated with building a new set than having the lights switched on!

But the desk was great, the best I've ever seen, and the "darkness" made a particular atmosphere which in my opinion was terrific.

I think because of the shifts they weren't allowed to have the lights on anymore or something

Yeah, health and safety regulations, otherwise Stephen Cole and Nik Gowing turn into vampires.

Just finished watching the latest bulletin from BBC World with Adrian. It went really well, no problems at all. They used the sports sting and even did a proper sign off. They showed the whole studio for opening and closing shots.

Only thing that went wrong was the title sequence: sound/picture was out of sink and that happened the hour before too.

Yes, Lindsey Brancher presented three or four good bulletins today. The weekend shake up is obviously a function of Anita McNaught leaving the BBC for a while. I wonder if we will see more of Lindsey at weekends, or whether they will start to rotate other presenters. I recall Martine doing a weekend around 4 months ago.

Lucy has had a long day!!

BBCWorld2003 - the images of Zeinab Badawi, Mike Embley etc, were taked from either thetvrroom or tv-ark. Can't remember which. They are stored at my desktop at home.

Cortomaltese - here's a special shot of that desk just for you. You can just make it out, amidst the cameras and cables. I will never understand why they introduced that split down the middle of the desk!!

I think that Nik Gowing is more like a gremlin than a vampire actually!! He looks almost "badly drawn" in the foto below. And let's all club together to get him a new tie, for goodness sake, He's been wearing the current one for weeks now.
