Well, watching BBC World here in Dubai where I live, and we DID see the plane taking off. I guess those of you who had Talking Movies must have had regional opt outs, or something.
Just watching the Ramallah coverage right now - Lyse is doing an excellent job.
Otherwise, from early morning onwards, World has been somewhat mediocre. TWT and BBC News that followed it with Eades and Sara Coburn was pitiful/ Far too many breaks. When David returns after the Sports News, which itself is conluded with a Sting and commercial break, he reads out one single, short headline, then we have a sting again, followed by the weather, followed by commercial break, followed by Sting, then headlines then WBR.
I can't believe that this is supposed to be the new format of these bulletins. Honestly, if it is, I won't watch it. There is no real news presentation.
I really do hope that its just an interim thing until the new set and studio is unveiled on Monday.
From what I've heard, it is (worryingly) the new permanent format. It's been brilliant today, as they reverted pretty much to the old format with Lyse doing non-stop coverage.
Well, I hope that in the new studio the result of this awful new format will be a little better. Anyway I hate the newsbar and all those reminders of the main headlines took the place of signing off, which was a very important moment.
Mike Embley is presenting from the set of The World at the moment but he's sitting at the other side of the desk where the business/sport presenter normally sits.
Noticed the text on the ticker is in All Caps, another annoying feature of the new BBC World, also looks like News 24 are using the non clear feed of WBR, as I saw the BBC World DOG on News 24.
I think BBC world has become very complicated to handle with all this technology that has been added in the recent years: multi-feeds,TOG,Colombus system, etc, etc. I have been watching BBC world for over 7 years now, and I must say I prefer the flags era; the presentation, the in-depth reports, the music; I think that was the golden age of the channel. Since 2 years ago, the channel has been going in decline; I just can't understand how they can add 2 more commercial breaks, and not notice that there's not time now for in-depth coverage, interviews, etc. I don't think the dynamic junction is a good idea; I would combine it with advertisement without affecting the current structure of the channel. I think the way they changed the whole structure is a big mistake; clearly, they can't copy CNNI style because it doesn't work ;most of the programmes haven't been design to fit a commercial network.

Actually, I think the ALL CAPS ticker is an improvement - the old text was ridiculously small and hard to read compared to tickers on CNN or wherever else. There's no point having a ticker if it can't be read properly.
Now, if only they get the text to scroll smoothely. I've seen it happen once or twice, but then it's back to jumping along later.
Lucy Hockings has just presented another BBC World bulletin from the National Set, and the bulletin's start-up was fraught with problems again - no music, lost film, wrong camera, incorrect captions........
Also, I noticed that the interactive ribbon that is used on the opening sequence and which usually contains the main headline, had some mis-spelt / technical error, involving the word Arafat and then what appeared to be the letters e33kj ???? (Or something like that). This occurred for three bulletins in a row.
These technical errors are all becoming too freuqent. The BBC should have had all this sorted by now.
Well, it's time to say farewell to the old BBC World set that has served us for the last five years or so. Some of us hated it. Some of us loved it, and others weren't fussed. From the original oval desk, to the current split one that nobody really understood. Regardless, the standard of broadcasting brought to us by those who sat behind that desk has always been consistently high. Let's hope that the new set lives up to our expectations. It probably won't. Because if it did, there would be no need for this forum!

I loved the BBC World Newsroom as it was, it didn't need any renewal.
Lucy Hockings is working overtime today... it's her 8th bulletin in a row!
I see BBCWORLD that you got some of thoses pictures from bbcworld.com insite. where did you get the pics of Zeinab Badawi, Lyse Doucet, Mike Embley and Alistair Yates from??
I liked the old set but to me it was outdated but still a very good set.
Did anyone just watch the last news bulletin with Lindsey Brancher?? I think she is great and that news bulletin was good. There were no breaks, the sport sting and a proper goodbye (looks like ill have to be watching BBC World in the weekends instead - although they did use N24's opedning titles and astons. and at the begining of the news she said "Welcome to-this is BBC News im Lindsey Brancher" perhaps BBC WORLD and N24 were doing a joint broadcast)
Oh well the set better be good and they should have no more cock ups!
