BBC World is using a generic BBC News Tower at the moment. Are they doing a joint broadcast or is it just a mistake? The Tower is even showing the time (GMT).
It's a plane taking off. What more could you learn about the story from that?
Well, it was a very important moment in our recent history, and even the images of a plane taking off were very meaningful even for people like me, who have never admired Arafat.

I'm really sorry I don't understand what you mean by 'meaningful'. If a coffin was being removed from a plane I could probably understand, but not one taking off.

Since the moment I switched on the tv and saw the plane waiting for Suha Arafat I waited to see that plane take off... I can't explain why but I'm sure I wasn't the only one. The other international news channel didn't break off the coverage because that was an important moment... And anyway, BBC World had been broadcasting the images of the plane for at least an hour, they could have waited just two minutes more to let the audience see the actual take-off.

Well yes that does seem rather silly.
Having caught up with the days news I do see that the journey was covered fairly exstensively by many outlets.

If they had waited two minutes there wouldn't have been enough time for Talking Movies and News would have had to fill the whole half hour.

I can't get use to this new look BBC World, it's just not good!
Well, watching BBC World here in Dubai where I live, and we DID see the plane taking off. I guess those of you who had Talking Movies must have had regional opt outs, or something.
Just watching the Ramallah coverage right now - Lyse is doing an excellent job.
Otherwise, from early morning onwards, World has been somewhat mediocre. TWT and BBC News that followed it with Eades and Sara Coburn was pitiful/ Far too many breaks. When David returns after the Sports News, which itself is conluded with a Sting and commercial break, he reads out one single, short headline, then we have a sting again, followed by the weather, followed by commercial break, followed by Sting, then headlines then WBR.
I can't believe that this is supposed to be the new format of these bulletins. Honestly, if it is, I won't watch it. There is no real news presentation.
I really do hope that its just an interim thing until the new set and studio is unveiled on Monday.

From what I've heard, it is (worryingly) the new permanent format. It's been brilliant today, as they reverted pretty much to the old format with Lyse doing non-stop coverage.
