My God! Four breaks in just one bulletin (and what about the Maldives instead of my beloved weather sting?)... just time for three useless reminders of the main headlines... and cock-ups, cock-ups, cock-ups.... simply unwatchable.

I think its time to e-mail Rachel Attwell - BBC World / News 24 Controller

Isn't Richard Porter now World's acting editorial director?

Though it sounds like this is more a commercial decision than an editorial one, so it may be something to take up with the BBC Worldwide hierarchy rather than BBC News. I'm sure someone can clarify.

Indeed a commercial decision. Richard Porter, is acting as World's editorial director, while Sian Kevill is away. Richard is usually the editor of Breakfast.

Ok - halt!
It's day one of 'streaming', World are in the middle of a re-brand - N9 is not exactly a nice place to work at the moment while the builders are in - and they have drastically changed the format of the half hours.
Give the guys a chance.
Remember too - World Pres are now up and running from the New Broadcast Centre and using diferent automation systems as well to control the streams.
Its been a hell of a monday, and yes the channel has suffered - but things WILL settle down. World is a COMMERCIAL channel - not a publicly funded rolling news channel - so its commercial implications are important as well as the journalistic values it upholds. Its a fine balancing act, things will be tweaked i'm sure.
I also have to say that it shows up those presenters who are unable to talk to time! Laughing

So, in conclusion, we've gained another two breaks per bulletin, lost the business and sport stings, lost the proper break stings, and lost the closing titles. Instead, they're either using nothing, or just the small network stings. It looks very sloppy indeed.

And that's what I wanted to hear. I thought BBC World was at its peak last week with the coverage of the U.S. presidential election and the debates and special programmes that came along with it. And suddenly, like some first year business student with no eye for quality took over, World has fallen into a bottomless hole. Some people even argue about two commercial breaks per bulletin... Well, I could handle thoseperfectly well (it's what I; m used to). But three breaks makes the programme messy and disorganized.

Those ad-break stings, which were used overnights until now, are too short: they make me feel uncomfortable, it goes too fast. As itsrobert said, the business and sports stings are also gone and that makes Wold News even more messy, David Jessel visibly feels unwell with this chaos and so do I!

And I didn't even say something about when this new studio is finished because there are so much more important things that irritate me now!

I only watched for half an hour with Nik Gowing, it was pretty poor, Nik Gowing ended up gawping at the screen half the time, it was very strange, I think having three breaks is a big mistake, but World need to make money I guess at the end of the day.

To be honest, I've felt that while BBC News 24 has become much better since 2003, BBC World is on a slippery slope towards where N24 used to be. It's becoming sloppy: you never know which presenter is going to be on when these days, and the number of technical mishaps over the last six months has been appalling.

Yes I find myself watching World a lot less these days, News 24 has got a lot lot better, and World is going downhill, hopefully the new set wil be worth watching, not sure about this new format of three breaks, surely now there is less news on BBC World then it was with the previous format.

Let's see in a couple of weeks, it might just settle down.

As Media Boy said, it's a delicate balance between money and journalism. On the one hand, the journalism is great and there are loads of viewers but there's not much cash, or the alternative is that there's more cash but less viewers!

A reliable source has informed me that some of the problems today arose from some of the N9 gallery equipment not working after it had been played around with over the weekend. Apparently, there have been lots of pilots for the new "streaming", which was put into force today, but due to sickness, some of today's presenters had to launch the new format without having proper training. Just one of those things I suppose. BBC World Pres (the bit that controls the BBC World channel output, as opposed to News) also moved to the new Broadcast Centre today, and apparently, some of the automation didn't go to plan. Hence, why they crashed many of the TOTHs and opts today. Hopefully all that will be ironed out in due course.

I must say that although I can see where and why the difficulties arose, I'm still not happy with the idea. Three breaks in half an hour is far too much, and it makes the bulletin feel disjointed. The lack of a proper close also looks odd. In terms of presentation fans, it's a disaster. They've stripped the channel of everything bar the titles and one sting! Even the channel idents seem to have disappeared now!

Ah I see, that's explains why the 9am GMT bulletin went ahead with no TOG generated astons, instead it was the Big Ted version,

Yes I think it's because Pres have to chop back and forth between themselves and news studio feed, hence the reason for this disjointness, me too thinks it's too much, it's incredibly worrying when you say they have lost the stings and end titles, it was on in the morning though!
