Well, watching Nik Gowing presenting I wouldn't say he will feel bad about working less... His presentation style has become very static and monotonous. He's still excellent though in the role of special envoyee (Berlin, Jerusalem, Vienna this year) and at moderating debates. I think these roles suit him much better then the news presentation at the moment.
On Friday I think his slot was still filled by Peter Dobbie though I'm not that sure.
Strange top of the hour at 0100BST: the simulcast began at 0059 so that we get to see a promo about a programme on BBC One and the beginning of the N24 countdown (excellent music). Then they cut to the World countdown. The bulletin though, presented by Tim Muffet, began without the usual titles but with the sting usually shown before the headline recap at :30.
I saw the 0100 bulletin as well. The reason for the unusual opening was that BBC World was airing a 50-minute documentary on the 7/7 attacks, so it only needed a summary. After BBC World opted out, News 24 continued with the news as normal. It's very unusual for BBC World to show a documentary at that time - they are usually aired only in the UK daytime at weekends.

Thanks for clearing that up, folks.
I'm glad that Nisha Pillai has her own shift again - she's definitely worthy of one. She used to do the 1200-1600 shift, until she was replaced by Mishal Husain and then David Eades. It's good that she has a prime slot too, with the flagship edition of Asia Today.
It's strange how Nik Gowing's shift has been cut down to only 2 bulletins. I wonder how he feels about that - especially with him being BBC World's senior presenter. It hardly seems worth it, to be honest.
Lyse Doucet always used to be Nik's relief presenter on Fridays, but she now seems to being assigned to Nisha's new 1600-1800 shift on Fridays. I didn't see who took over at 1800 on Friday, though.
