Clunky, awful graphics; an underlit broom cupboard of a studio; washed out rear projection; the usual cock ups and mis-cues on Astons, Coming Up, etc.; and almost zero differentiation on content.

Yes folks, it's BBC World's recipe to get America watching its 'superior' output.

They really do have to be joking this time.

You an idiot? this programme differs from regular news programmes and slightly more than The World Today... today there was a few cock ups, yesterdays was fine.

And jamej yesterday after WNT was Kirsty Lang on News, Manisha Tank on Business and Francis Collings on Sport.... then the next shift was Lindsey Brancher on News, Dharshini David on Biz and Rob on Sport.

After WNT Today its Kirsty on News, Manisha on Biz and unsure on Sport.

But have the shifts changed to accomodate George's new programme?

Yes I believe so... 3 hour shifts by the looks of it from what ive seen.

But the people presenting are still the same?

Well I guess so! David Jessel done TWT all week apart from Tuesday when Lindsey Brancher done it on Tuesday. Lindsey was also on Last night and done late afternoon shift on monday I think. Kirsty Lang done the 12-3 shift on Monday and Tuesday. Nisha done the late afternoon shift for 3 days.

Anyway im sorta confused, so here is a list of the presenters on BBC from Monday - Friday ...

David Jessel, Martine Dennis, Kirsty Lang, George Alagiah, Nisha Pillai, Jonathan Charles, Peter Dobbie, Lyse Doucet, Lindsey Brancher and Zeinab on The World... thats all the presenters ive seen on world in the past week.

If you like, I can try and record the shift times and presenters on for each day this week! (and no this does not mean ill be watching 24hours!! ill be checking in each toth, and luckily for me overnight is during my day!)

I don't understand why they chose to divide the afternoon into 3 two-hour stints. They are extremely brief if you compare them to the morning and night ones (which are twice as long) and the weekend ones (three times as long and sometimes even longer).

I haven't seen a great deal of BBC World recently, so can anyone tell me what the shifts are now, please?

I know weekends (times BST)

0600-1200
1200-1900
1900-0100

Do weekdays go something like this:

0500-0800
0800-1200
1200-1300 World News Today
1300-1600
1600-1800
1800-2000
2000-2030

1200-1300 World News Today (George)

The morning programme on BBC America lasts from 1100-1400GMT, so why do they see three different programmes with three different presenters?
Plus, why does WNT not go out at 1300GMT because at 1200 it means the far west of america get the bulletin at 0400, and isn't 0500 Better?

1600-2000 (Nik Gowing)
2000-2030
2100-0100 (Mike)

Plus Katty's stint between 2300 and 0100 from Washington, and of course the Overnight Shift.

0600-1200
1200-1900
1900- 0100

Why end this shift at 0100 when the overnight presenter is in for midnight on News 24?

Actually Nik Gowing's shift is starts at 1800 BST now and lasts until 2000. And by the way it was mainly presneted by Peter Dobbie this week.
The 1600-1800 shift has been and will probably be mainly presented by Nisha Pillai.

During the simulcast hours bulletins are not UK-centred: UK stories have no greater importance than others and they use expressions like "The British Prime Minister Tony Blair" that would be totally unnecessary for the News24 audience.
At midnight many people must still be watching N24 and that's why, I think, they wait an hour to start the simulcast.

Strange. Haven't seen World for a while though. But Nisha is supposed to be presenting an asia-based hour, and 1600-1800 isn't primetime there.

Prime time in India, as archiveTV pointed out.

Thanks for clearing that up, folks.

I'm glad that Nisha Pillai has her own shift again - she's definitely worthy of one. She used to do the 1200-1600 shift, until she was replaced by Mishal Husain and then David Eades. It's good that she has a prime slot too, with the flagship edition of Asia Today.

It's strange how Nik Gowing's shift has been cut down to only 2 bulletins. I wonder how he feels about that - especially with him being BBC World's senior presenter. It hardly seems worth it, to be honest.

Lyse Doucet always used to be Nik's relief presenter on Fridays, but she now seems to being assigned to Nisha's new 1600-1800 shift on Fridays. I didn't see who took over at 1800 on Friday, though.

Well, watching Nik Gowing presenting I wouldn't say he will feel bad about working less... His presentation style has become very static and monotonous. He's still excellent though in the role of special envoyee (Berlin, Jerusalem, Vienna this year) and at moderating debates. I think these roles suit him much better then the news presentation at the moment.

On Friday I think his slot was still filled by Peter Dobbie though I'm not that sure.

Strange top of the hour at 0100BST: the simulcast began at 0059 so that we get to see a promo about a programme on BBC One and the beginning of the N24 countdown (excellent music). Then they cut to the World countdown. The bulletin though, presented by Tim Muffet, began without the usual titles but with the sting usually shown before the headline recap at :30.

On Friday Lyse done World News Today, then Jonathan Charles then Lyse Doucet then Peter Dobbie then Lindsey Brancher.
