I would like to know why the BBC would want to bother changing the BBC WORLD set, and related studios / offices when in just 3 years time they will be moving to new, spacious and purpose built facilities at BBC Broadcasting House?

Three years is a VERY long time to wait for a relaunch, especially in the fast moving world of TV!

Indeed...if they had waited for three years, they would have had that newsroom and set for 7 years virtually unchanged (the desk was changed to the current one in c.2001 I think) -- that's a year longer than BBC One had the virtual era, and that seemed to last forever!

In terms of looking into the future, I doubt we'll see a completely new News 24 studio before the move, as by then it will only be 4 years old, still a year behind the 1999-2003 look, but I wonder if there will be modifications? If anything is going to change, it'll probably be the titles and graphics. They may not be completely overhauled again in the next three years, but I'd put money on them being tweaked in some way! The musical element is probably also likely to change, given that BBC World News has had a new music package every two years since 1998! I wonder if they'll break the pattern and stay with this one till the move?

I see they've made some changes to the Washington studio. The news presenter (Jon Sopel at the moment) is now sitting at the other side of the desk and they've now added a plasma screen for interviews.

<tuts> You beat me to it. Got some rather dodgy caps of the Washington Studio - apologies for the quality, but they were rather hastily taken with my mobile as I watched on TV:

Two-way
Note of course the plasma screen for two-ways, but also a view I hadn't seen before this evening with N24-style red perspex showing a newsroom-esque view beyond it. Well people could be seen milling about behind it anyway.

New panel insert
Where previously there was just a red panel, there now sits a US ELECTION 2004 panel, seen here between Jon Sopel and the guest. Reminds me of the panel inserts that were briefly introduced when they updated the ivory/China red 1999 era National studio.

...and finally
For anyone who hasn't seen the studio in full, here's a wide shot. Again, my apologies for the image quality. The 'view' out of the left 'windows' is towards Capitol Hill; the right looks out over the White House.

Yep I would have to agree, now of course what happens tomorrow, will the lot be presented from The World's set , or will BBC World make arrangements to move to the National News studio?

Instead of all this frosted glass and washed out images behind our beloved presenters, I would love if they reverted back to something clean and fresh like the images below? These shots are all taken from The World Today news set (old one), where the main presenter would sit in the large desk (in the case below, it is Keshini), and the secondary presenter (below it's Anita and Martine) would sit opposite on an "island" (a la Moira Breakfast) and provide frequent summaries of the news. The main presenter would provide in depth analysis and also do all the interviews.

Some of you may feel it was dated, but the studio then looked nice and clean and fresh and crisp. Now it's a little bit unruly I think.

The World Today (with Martine Dennis and Sally Bundock) is coming from the News 24 studio this morning. Interesting, I was hoping for this to happen.
I think the other news programmes will be coming from a temporary studio.

Nice cock-up on TWT, they showed the old World Business Report titles just a minute ago.

And voilà, the next cock-up. They just shorwed the BBC World Break sting, instead of the WBR Break sting. I'm sure this went also out on News 24.

And finally the third cock-up: They failed to play the closing titles. Instead of this the weather presenter appeared early while Martine and Sally were still talking.

The World Today
Well David has given a full acount of what went on this morning, but I think its fair to say how nice it was to see Sally and Martine in some decent lighting conditions! The World Today look a lot nicer from the BBC News 24 set, much smarter. Strange that they played out the wrong WBR titles and even more strange that this set of titles was still on the server even being over a year old.

So I guess this all answers my earlier question that World will be elsewhere for a while then, so some nice comsmetic changes ahead I feel.

Sport Today is coming from the stand-up area of News 24 set, so I guess the Sport Today/The World set isn't available anymore.
