There will be some changes to BBC World in the summer, including a brand new programme aimed at the Breakfast Audience in the states. and the evening audience in Asia.

The programme will be presented by one of the BBC's best known news presenters, a face well known to viewers in the UK and across the world.

Expect a press release in the next couple of weeks Very Happy

That's interesting - will it possibly be branded, maybe as another edition of The World Today? But i just don't know who the news presenter could be - Peter Sissons springs to mind - but is he known internationally?

Hold on - is it George Alagiah??

I was thinking George too.

Well I was thinking of several people who could be possible candidates:
George
Peter Sissons
Lyse
Mike Embley
Anyone who had presented The World

Just could be any number of people. I do feel Peter Sissons would be more suited to a scripted style of porgramme such as this could be, he is simply wooden and seems a little past it on News 24 these days in comparison with his days on Network BBC News, in my opinion anyway.

Just to remind you guys BBC World will be switching off tomorrow in analogue on 13E, apparantly there is a warning message on the channel already!

From then on BBC World will be a fully digital channel, hopefully this means the channel could possibly go Widescreen Wink

BBC World has ceased off analogue 13E, it is now carrying a upgrade to digital screen, I presume this is been generated by the Beeb.

Thanks bbcworld2005, I have Digital Satellite and this graphic is what's been transmitted on Hotbird analogue as far as I know it dosen't animate, but I can't confirm it as I went Digital 2 years ago.

I noted yesterday a new (yet oddly familiar) female voice over doing several programme intro's, in place of the now iconic tones of Adrian Finighan. I suppose they have now decided to revamp their intros??

Anyone able to shed any light on who's familiar voice it was? It sounded like a cross between Phillipa Thomas and The Doily.

George Alagiah will present the new US-focused programme on BBC World. It'll go out at midday UK time, which is 7am in much of the US. Broadcast doesn't make clear whether he'll carry on at the 6 o'clock news, but I suspect this is a given.

Thanks, Cyber.

However, if the new programme is to be US-centric, why not anchor it from Washington or NYC, instead of London? Or is it indeed from the USA and George is moving there, I wonder?

Thanks anyway for this. Interesting development.

It's not going to be a US centric programme, but will be aimed at both the Breakfast US audience, and the Asia evening audience.

So pretty much TWT with more US and Asian stories?

Nice to see a bespectacled Martine Dennis on air this morning. Suits her.

Manisha Tank just finished her last Business Segment during one of Martine's bulletins, then we could see her immediately afterwards in the newsroom directly behind Martine, putting on a huge woollen coat/wrap type thing, and then waving to everyone, and rushing out of the studio. How observant of me.

I rarely notice what is going on in the background, and today was merely analyzing the frosted glass that someone was moaning about over on the N24 thread, when I saw this.

How sad.......

I, admittadly quite happily, watched someone in the News 24 newsroom scratch their arse for a good minute yesterday by the pod... Lovely!
