Lucy Hockings appears to be doing TWT these days, and David Eades is doing the mid slot, after Martine Dennis' usual 4 hour stint. (which incidentally Lyse Doucet did yesterday).

I don't mind the randomness thing so much, to be honest. Although it is probably deemed by most that if a presenter has a regular slot, he/she makes his/her mark more. However, the random appearances works for me!

The current BBC World Panel questionnaire asks members for their opinions on CNN International's new graphics, and whether any opinions of CNNI's new presentation package would be desirable on BBC World. Interesting...

Well, I suppose they wouldn't have to change the fonts too much.

Viewers in Asia might see some minor changes to the channel soon - the Asia Pacific feed currently has all its local opts inserted locally, but it's soon going to be taken over by Red Bee and transmitted from the Broadcast Centre. In theory, it'll mean less messy junctions.
Oh, and this image on the BBC World homepage isn't their playout suite

I agree...its certainly interesting to see a questionnaire asking what viewers think of CNN's new look. Seems like World is not very confidant about its own branding. My verdict - get lambie-nairn to create something unique. Their work is always first class.

Speaking of Kirsty Lang, she is on The World Today this morning, alongside Sally Bundock. She (KL) completely forgot what programme she was on and clearly struggled to remember what to say at the top of the programme. For a second, I though SB was going to burst in and do the intro!!! LOL. Thereafter, the programme actually flowed quite well and was quite good.

Classic! I used to be able to watch TWT and it was certainly one of the most interesting bulletins. Kirsty does have a funny presentation style, she was on The World not so long along and seemed to be straining to see the autocue followed not to later by a lapse in the headlines... as the saying goes, Muck Happens. (although, it's funny when it does...)

Aah...to be honest, TWT isn't the same without Martine Dennis and Tanya Beckett. It used to be great.

Aye they were the days...

I always thought the 01 Sept 12 special was when TWT was at it's peak. I remember been in bed at 5 and have a shiver run down my spine with the music and very, very sombre tones. Still, it does have one of the best introduction sequences on BBC News at the moment.

The TWT special open and closing music from 2001 was fantastic. I think that's one of, if not the, best David Lowe tracks of all time.

I agree with you that TWT was at its best between 2001 and the 2003 re-launch. Martine Dennis and Tanya Beckett were a great team and it felt like a proper programme. Since Martine and Tanya left and they keep swapping presenters, I rarely tune in anymore.

For what purpose was the music originally written? Had it been used before Sept 12?

BBC World music packages have featured a 'special' piece of music since 1998 (flags era). During the flags era, they often finished TWT bulletins with a montage of news images and the special music in the background. Hence, when TWT re-launched in September 2001, there was a new special piece of music composed. It was used on September 12th because it was the first major news story to warrant such a montage since the re-launch.

I guess the ticker element of CNN's graphics would work with BBC's TOG system better then their existing ticker...

Jeez. A full 59 seconds countdown just now.............great music at the upper end of the countdown. Several beat changes.

The double header with Laura Trevelyan and Mike Embley is a right mess tonight, with endless errors and wrong cameras and missed cues and so on.....

I am bemused as to why they bring Laura Trevelyan in to anchor this slot, when Manisha Tank is already there in the NY studio. Manisha is more than capable of co anchoring with London.

In fact she is in the tiny NY studio right now alongside Laura, presenting the business slot. Guto Harri is there too.

About 12hours ago when watching BBC World, they went into an ad break and played the Putting News first sting, instead of cutting straight to a breakbumper, this is the first time in a long time!

One of the bulletin anchored by Peter Dobbie last night had some technical problems I guess, he remained on the screen for awhile instead of cutting over to the weather, then we had an overhead shot of the studio before jumping to the breakfiller. Thought that's a pretty nice touch.
