Unfortunate losing of voice by Dharshini just now on WBR - good job it was at the end of the broadcast..

That's not the first time it happens to her! I recall an edition of the 2230 CET WBR she was anchoring from NY along with Manisha in London in which she also lost her voice and had to be brought water.

It all started when they were doing "the news in brief" segment just before embarking on commenting the markets. She was struggling to keep on reporting and it was quite funny to see Manisha trying hard not to start laughing. Finally they went into the break and back from it, Manisha went like "Let's hope Dharshini's had a glass of water and fixed it all" and Dharshini, with voice, said "I can confirm I have had that water". So nothing really fab since she wasn't brought it on air, but later during an interview from the NY studio one could spot the glass on the desk.

She has. That was during the Gate Gourmet affair and the strike at BA. At the end of the week on Friday evening she was anchoring along with Jamie Robinson, who said just before the end of the programme "Dharshini, on monday you'll actually be sitting in this very chair, won't you?" to which she answered "Right. Provided my flight isn't canceled"

Oh, right, I was away and I couldn't watch BBCWorld at the time but I remember people talking about her broadcasting from NY on the forum.
Thanks.

Daljit Dhaliwal presented the BBC World News from Washington yesterday evening. The Beeb should keep her in DC instead of NY.

Why, what happened? I only saw the first two minutes and then had to leave.

At the beginning of the first bulletin she looked around her for a few seconds before starting to speak, then she messed up a little announcing the Pakistan Attack breaking news and she closed the second bulletin by saying "I'm Daljit Dhaliwal in New York" (with Washington's Capitol Hill just behind her).
Nothing terrible anyway.

Hopefully her presenting skills will improve over time. But I do like that idea of Peter Dobbie getting a regular shift on World. He's done a really good job so far. If there were a few presenters to trade with News 24, Jane Hill or Chris Eakin would be good choices. Or why not simulcast N24 Tonight on BBC World? I think it would be a good move for the channel. It essentially would be BBC's answer to CNN's Your World Today. It might even work out well: financially speaking.
