For the first time ever, I (dimwit) have just realised that the theme music on TWT is different from the other BBC World bulletins.

I heard it in particular this morning when David Jessel (the 3rd anchor to appear in so many days) was recapping the Yasser Arafat situation.

It's quite a good theme with lots of drums in the background, also played when the headlines are being read out.

Wish the other mainline BBCW bulletins will adopt this format.

Also, I hear whispers of a certain Mr. Witchell shortly getting behind the BBC World news desk as an anchor on TWT when it is re-launched later, with Nisha Pillai going to the The World and Kirsty Lang coming into BBC World News. Is anyone able to verify this?

Also, whispers that Geet Guru-Murthy and Zeinab Badawi will have more prominent roles on BBC World broadcasting.

Someone please comment.

If indeed these whispers are true then I am very happy. Nick Whitchell is an outstanding newsreader and could prove very popular at BBC World, though I can't really see him going back to Breakfast boradcasting. He has served his time on Breakfast, and a long time at that. Zeinab should get the Hardtalk job, she is so good at tough interviewing and deserves a prominent role such as Hardtalk. Nisha moving to The World - good. Never rated her as a newsreader, she is always wavign her arms about and is just not suitable for the hourly bulletin. Geeta - don't really like her, perhaps as a permanent face of Asia Today.

Can I ask where these whispers came from????

Saw Nisha on TW last night - she was very capable and fluent. Far prefer her to that Kirsty Lang woman.

OK BBC World, this music is not always played so you're not a "dimwit" to my recollection its only played at the half past break and has only been played a few times, my theory is that its a one minute bed of music along with picture maybe at 15 seconds to the end so they only play it when they have a full one minute of closing news in that part...I could be wrong. It is however a much nicer version of the theme.

Firstly wash your mouth out, Nick Witchell on TWT please! That makes me very angry as I am a huge fan of David Eades. Secondly who said and when is TWT being re-launched if it is?

Don't get me wrong I like Nick Witchell but David IS The World Today for me and has really been finding his way as a newscaster after a wooden and shakey start.

I seriously think if anyone should get Master Eades' job it could only be Adrian.

Not really bothered about 'The World' but again Nisha is just so flakey.

One final point for people to mull over is whether they should give Ms Bundock a news presenting role?

Don't know about Sally Bundock getting a news presenting role, but would like to see Tanya Beckett continuing her role as part time news reader. I recall her presenting Breakfast a few times with Jeremy Bowen when Sophie was sick.

Also, she very capably does the Washington double header on a Friday evening.

If these rumors are true, they have a good chance of being that. I say that because World will be going through some changes as people know to make the channel overall look more accessible, and swapping presenters is probably part of the plan.

Sally was reading the news headlines on The World Today just the other day and was excellent at it.

I'm sure BBC World's plans aren't exactly TOP SECRET but I understand the likes of Marcus, itsRobert et al not being able to say to much, however how drastic are these plans of changes. I was under the impression it was just the set I didn't know formats or presenting teams would be changed.

Anyone help?

There are no immediate change to any of the presenters, at least none that I know off. That Nick Witchell thing came quite out of the blue. Doesn't mean it isn't true, but would love to know your source, or whether it's just wishful thinking. It is common knowledge that Tim Sebastian is leaving Hardtalk so things may move around a bit depending who gets that.

Don't expect to many changes to programme formats either.

There is a major change coming in the way BBC World handles breaks and how it feeds different parts of the world, but that is a separate issue from any changes in the newsroom.

As I said worth keeping an eye on world for the next few weeks

Does anyone know if BBC World will ever broadcast its signal in widescreen?

Has BBC World and N24 stopped using the on-screen news ticker? I haven't seen it for some time. If so, why?

It's still used for the business bulletins on news 24 and for the headlines every 15 minutes, if they're covering another story
