....YOUNG heart, actually. (I think). I was only joking anyway - Jaime knew that.

So, who's got a new hairdo today on BBC News?

I am getting terrible sound and picture quality right now on BBC World, and it seems to be only at the same time of the day, and eventually perfects itself again when The World starts at midnight. Anyone else having problems? It is bad between 7 pm and mdnight. (3pm and 8pm UK time).

Sounds like a shift length to me for a sound op?

Not quite, shifts on BBC World are 10 hours long

This morning at 0600 GMT Anya Sitaram began her morning shift, but now, at 1130GMT (when Anya was supposed to do her last news summary) I saw David Eades, definitely his first time on a week-end. When did Anya leave and David take over?

David actually started out doing weekends only when he joined World in the beginning. He was a rare and occasional presenter, and did very infrequent fill-ins, similar to the level of activity that we see these days from Ben Brown.

David probably did a one-off shift yesterday because BBC World were showing rolling coverage (oddly in my opinion) of George Best's funeral. David Eades is rather well qualified to do this (note morosely, I hasten to add) because of his former role(s) as BBC Sport Correspondent and BBC Northern Ireland Correspondent. The funeral took place in Belfast, where Eades was stationed for a time a few years ago.

Being a sports afficionado, it made sense for World to use an anchor who could cover both aspects of the day's presentation requirements - News and Sports (related).

It was evident from yesterday's coverage that a lot of guests at the funeral were just appearing off of busses and it would make sense for someone who knew a bit about sports to commentate with authority on some of the guest who suddenly appeared on screen. David Eades was probably able to do this off the cuff, whereas Anya Sitaram would have needed instructions through her earpiece, which could have embarrassingly led to mispronunciations, etc.........

....a problem that Sky News in fact encountered with their choice of Kay Burley as on location anchor. Loads of sport celebrities rolled up outside Stormont and many participated on live interviews with Kay. She had no idea who some of them were.

Thanks, I hadn't thought about that as I didn't follow the funeral.

The things you miss when you dont visit TV Forum regularly. I've just been reading some of the posts and was really shocked to discover that Adrian Finnigan is leaving BBC News. He is by far one of the greatest tv news presenters of current time. I always remember him from the overnight periods he did a few years ago on News 24/World bulletins. Always makes you laugh with a joke what ever the time of night. He is so cool at reading the news and so friendly to watch. I will certainly be tuning into CNNi to watch him. Best of luck to the guy.

I agree entirely, David. Your opinion of Adrian is 100% accurate IMO. And I for one WILL be tuning in to CNNI as well. (I normally do anyway, to see World News Europe, as I am not such a great fan of The World on BBC World. Nothing to do with Zeinab, who is an excellent anchor, but I don't like the format of the bulletin or the set.)

I don't often watch BBC World overnight -at least not weekdays- but I haven't seen Deborah MacKenzie for such a long time! Is she still on News24?

Deborah is still around on the overnights - I saw her approx one week ago.

Yep, me too. Last overnight bulletin I watched was with her presenting apart from one I saw with Tim earlier.

Deborah McKenzie usually seems to cover for either Martine, Alistair or Karin on the 'overnight' bulletins.

From time to time she pops up on N24 during more sociable hours too!

That's certainly true. It will be just as great a loss as when Keshini departed or when John Terret and Linette Tye disappeared, but with a bigger impact as far as I am concerned since he was one of the most ubiquitous figure on the channel, along with such stalwarts as Nik Gowing and Mike Embley and Lyse Doucet. Yah, I also remember him doing the 1000 to 1230 pm CET shift, that was the period when I most familiarized with him, his high journalistic proficiencies and his superb style. That shift was later taken on by Mishal Hussein and then attributed to Mike Embley I reckon. Is that right or did I forget somebody who also got in charge of he nightly shift?
