BBC World in the USA is streamed 24/7 on Real Player. As for opt outs, PBS channels continue with the business news while BBC America takes the chance to air commercials at :15 and :20 past. When BBC A gets back to news, it shows the BBC World main ident.

In Canada we can get the whole channel streamed to our mobile phones.

You can't just call a long countdown a mistake because its unusual to normally see a long countdown.
It also doesnt always fade in to the countdown, ive seen it cut straight to it many times, including the last time i watched a toth.
I also havent notcied how the countdown is out of sync. when I look at the 2 on the milisecond or split second (in not sure when it is) but when the countdown is like 12:2 8 it will beep then it will next beep at 11:2 3. So ive never noticed it out of sync.

Well, I've just witnessed to a 59 seconds countdown... I have to say that after all it is rather nice BUT the music of the pre-2003 one remains the best and also the old N24's one is better in my opinion, some shots are quite powerful but some could be better and the red flashes along with the final red ident are terribly dodgy.
And it seems to me that the music is not perfectly synchronized with the seconds.
Is Ben Brown a regular presenter on N24?

I was always under the impression that they have the length of each countdown planned for some time in advance. Recall when they launched the new countdown; the new member here at TVF said that they had to ask permission to play out a long countdown so that it could be put into the schedule. Since most countdowns are around 10 or 11 seconds, I think its unlikely that they'd just decide to play a 59 second one for no apparent reason.
On N24 the countdown length is random depending on when the bulletin and weather finishes. Its not planned in advance like World is. Thats why I find it hard to believe that the 59 second countdown was 'planned' intentionally. It must have been accidental.
But then again I'm open to correction.

Quite correct. Remember BBC World is a commercial channel and every available second will be used to create income wheras N24 does not have these contraints it can be played out randomly to suit the gallery.

See that Ben Brown was back again yesterday! Nice to see him - and Lucy Hockings did another 45hours shift again (or it seemed like it.......)

IIRC, there was some rule that the countdown should be about 22 seconds or less. I think that was right. I found out four years ago, so I'm a bit hazy on that.
Not really - there are a number of summaries on BBC World at the weekend as opposed to full bulletins. So, they often have the best part of an hour off air during their shifts. For each six hour shift at the weekend, there are usually two or three summary hours.

We've just had Lucy Hockings doing the half hour of World news here on News 24. They do work the World presenters hard!

Dear Adrian (Finighan),
You are not quite so sparkiling these days, than you used to be. What's up?
