Interesting to see Jo Farrow doing the weather wearing glasses.
I'm wondering which presenters are also using glasses. So far
I only "caught" Deborah Mackenzie and Alistair Yates using glasses,
thinking they were offscreen. Deborah quickly removed them as fast as she could, but good old Alistair just finished his text before moving them off. So does anyone know more presenters who are wearing glasses when they are offscreen?

Mike Embley occasionally has them sitting on the desk, and ive seen him in the background behind the newsroom wearing them.

Martine Dennis has worn glasses a few times and weather presenter Alex Deakin has done weather with glasses on before. David Jessel and Brian Hanarahan also wear glasses.

Adrian Finighan has also worn glasses occasionally, but I haven't seen him wearing them for a long time.

Many presenters seem to have reading glasses, but not many use glasses for long distance viewing.

I've noticed that Rob McElwee has worn glasses before as has Bill Turnbull on Breakfast.

I've had another e-mail from Adrian to answer why he hasn't worn glasses for ages. He said he had laser eye surgery to correct the problem.

Hope that's of some interest.

Actually it strikes me as a little personal. Not sure I would be so quick to repeat it.

No offence.

maybe itsrobert wrote the e-mail on behalf of TV Forum readers, so Adrian would already knew that the answer would be in the public domain.

Actually, Gavin, Adrian gave me permission to repeat that on the forum, hence the whole purpose of the e-mail.

Well then I think that's really rather nice of him. I hope he enjoys reading along.

Of course, I wouldn't have commented had you made that clear initially, so I appreciate your, albeit late, addendum.

That was really nice of him to share the information. I wish I saw him on World more often during the weekdays.

Adrian does indeed seem to be a sporting chap. He is by far my favourite anchor on BBC World. Rob - you may wish to email him on my behalf and ask him if he recalls the time (during the virtual era) when he was still a Business Presenter on BBC World (1996-7, I think), and he dropped his "clicker" behind the desk whilst he was trying to show us exchange rates on screen, and rather than just giving up, the great man actually bent down and went under the desk to pick it up and continued like a pro, albeit his hair a bit dishevelled by the leap under the desk!! It was hilarious. I think it was on The World Today, and you could hear the main presenters alongside (I think Nici Marx and maybe Valerie Sanderson) howling in laughter. It was classic Adrian. Superb.

Damo, talking of cock ups, did you see last night's at 9pm London time bulletin when Mike Embley started his shift. The headline strap came on, and read "Headline set up - do not touch", and it re-appeared once again before being vanished. After Mike read the headlines minus any screen graphics, he appeared "in-vision" to start the bulletin and the tower then disappeared, and then the anchors name strap came up - it read Nik Gowing. It refreshed itself three times over, and still read Nik Gowing. It still amazes me after all this time, that the BBC World news graphics are shoddy and amateur.

CNNI and Sky are miles ahead in this respect.

James
