When is something going to done about the timing of the regional opt outs and the crashing in and out of bulletins? Here in the Middle East, the overall presentation is only marginally better than Glasgow University Student Television circa the mid-seventies, and that's saying something.

It also seems that the vast majority of the presenters, with the exception of Adrian Finighan and Alastair Yates, are incapable of timing their end-of-bulletin ad libs to reach junctions. What with that, the awful overall picture quality, the dodgy straps and Astons, the endless filler material (programmes like Reporters), the golf hole obscuring 'Tower' and the region specific 'interstitials' - those awful breakfillers - BBC World is just not very good. Surely BBC Broadcast can at least sort out all these timing problems.

Incidentally, when I mentioned these issues to two BBC execs, one of whom is resident in Dubai, they seemed blissfully unaware that there were any problems whatsoever. Maybe they're busy watching Sky News, due to become even more watchable from October 10.

Just saw a new BBC World trailer with what looks to be Clive Myrie in it. Different to the other three with John S, Emily B, and Hillary A. I didnt hear it because my tv was down and it looked very different from the other ones... and also just noticed during the first headline that that Sports today results came up but it was just white text!

Europe it seems is the best region in this sense.

Actually, I think Canada is the best in terms of opt-outs seeing as how we don't get any.

In comparison to CNNi or Sky News, BBC World looks very unprofessional and very slow when it comes to pace.

What do you think tWorld should to make it look more fast paced?

I say - more music.

Well, I'm here to say something good about BBC World today!

After spending two hours last night my time, I was pretty impressed as to how smooth things were running, all opts, were great no one was vut off, opt ins and outs were all on time and opted smoothly, no ads were cut off for other ads, no presenters where cut off, The breakfiller was controlled and I mean that when I say there wasnt a tonne over lapping each other apart from once which you wouldnt notice. I was pretty impressed at the clean operation! I watched from 1430-1700GMT and I liked what I saw!

Well, sorry to say this but your experience seems to be in sharp contrast to my daily dose of BBC World. Advertisements were cut, the headline strap during the headlines at the TOTH was absent for more than once, other irregularities during the TOTH headlines happened, mismanagement during the lack of translation of the Russian president during a live press conference, coming back after a commercial break in the middle of a report, weather sting present/absent, und so weiter, und so weiter.

Let I make it clear that I don't want to sound like a grumpy old man (I'm only 19), but it's all too serious what happens on BBC World every day. And besides that, I don't see those kind of mistakes happen on CNN International very often.

Something different now. Somewhere in this thread I picked up this remark by someone who said that a new presentation department had been created or is to be created, which would streamline things regarding graphics and sound on BBC World. Am I correct and in what phase is this development?

Furthermore, the 'downfall' of BBC World has, on several occasions within this thread, been related to budget cuts leading to staff dismissal. How many employees have actually been sacked and when? And why creating a new department after a sacking round?

Interesting to see Martine Croxall on TWT and 2 shifts after that.. I actually found her quite good along side others and she has good interaction with the Business and Sports presenters.

If the local opts are dodgy then that's the fault of the local company doing the opting.

And programmes such as Reporters aren't 'fillers' they're half the content of the channel!

Somebody must be off sick...Here in the UK she has been on all night from 01.00 onwards, as usual. That's one long shift she's put in.
