I share your sentiment!

I may be wrong, but IIRC she was on Breakfast on the morning of the general election - reporting from a market I think, and she looked like she had a bump then.

The BBC News Special on the German elections has been extremely good in my opinion: Nik Gowing did a great job always keeping a good pace and also Tristana Moore and Dominic Hughs did good.
Fantastic to see the sunset over the German Parliament behind Nik Going, they couldn't find a better place to broadcast from.
Just a few sound problems with the interpreters but a channel which so often suffers techincal faults wasn't supposed to reach perfection...
Oh, and great stings, I would sell my soul to get the music they played at the end of the News Special.

You're right. It was just as good as one would await from a self-respected news corporation, with relevant analysis of the results, great coverage from the main contenders' headquarters, clear and extensive explanation of the issuesand the stakes of the elections as well as their implications in Europe and the way they are likely to impact the current place of Germany within the EU, comprehensive coverage of the latest events, result fluctuations and speeches as long as the electoral night unfolds. But it takes to be BBC World to also provide a great filming location and nice, skilled, experienced and interested presenters/reporters. I knew the German election coverage couldn't be a scrumble since Nik Gowing was at the helm... It was a real pleasure watching this special coverage tonight, one the BBC can legitimately be genuinely proud of.

Simply record it on your VCR Wink
Are you refering to the incidental music they air during the few minutes left before the top of the hour when the coverage lasts almost 60 minutes? They used the same one during the tsunami coverage I think, or more recently for the Katrina disaster. It very much resembles the former one, which was for instance aired during the 2003 invasion of Iraq. So much that I wonder whether this music didn't survive the changes that took place at the end of 2003 and escaped unarmed...

No, it was a very distinct remix, not the usual special close...

Have they done this before, displaying market information above the tower or is it a new feature?

The special long endings over VT that were used in the last two eras were excellent, with wonderfully re-mastered versions of the respective theme tunes.

The "endings" used to go on for around 90 seconds, IIRC, and the most distinctive one that springs to mind was used during the last gulf war, when Saddam was captured, and also in the early stages of the war.

In the previous era, (flags, to those of you who remember it), there was oft the special ending used, but ONLY at the end of The World Today, which in those days was aired at 20:00 and 21:00 hrs London time, and was presented primarily by Donald MacCormack and Nici Marx. The ending was, like the one above, played over a mosaic of VT appropriate to whatever the special event or story was. It was alos of around 90 seconds duration. The last one I can specifically remember seeing was the Dunblane tragedy, back in 96 or 97.

The only one that I can recall during the current World era was on the day of the announcement of the death of Pope John Paul II. Again, it was a remastered theme, played over a mosaic of VT. But it only lasted 45 seconds, maximum.

Yaloh - sorry, I don't have any of the above in any format whatsoever, so I will add my name to your request!!

Thanks everyone,
James
