Not to mention the new weather sting: graphics are terrible, the music is so bad that is unbearable. I'm sure they will soon realize that broadcasting such a dreadful thing is a huge mistake.

Just wondering, is it really intended to sound like this or is my decoder making it sound all jittery? If it is, ... ouch!

Yes, that's what it sounds like on my TV, too. Terrible, isn't it? You'd have thought they'd have done a better edit than that, or just used the full version.

Definitely substandard, amazing this remix made it to production...

It's like the beeps begin too early every time!

In other remarks: it seems that every more often, World Business Report graphics are being used during BBC News by mistake. I'm talking about the straps on the bottom of the screen which feature names and/or the subject.

Furthermore, a couple of minutes before the TOTH, BBC World went live to the United Nations using a 'LIVE COVERAGE' sting. This one has been used on every occasion when there was both breaking news and live coverage. And that made me think: is the 'BREAKING NEWS' sting (which is practically the same I believe, except for the words) still in use?

The PIDLE stings are only used when N9 needs to interrupt a pre-recorded programme being played out on the channel. If N9 is on air at the time, they don't need to use them. Because the situation where there is a need to interrupt during a pre-recorded programme occurs so infrequently, the PIDLE stings are rarely seen.

I only saw the "Breaking News" sting after some advertisment during the asian tsunami coverage.

Hmmm Sara Coburn must of been late in to work or in the toilet because Martinne started and done business on TWT alone.

Interesting start though.. it showed her and the plasma, not on side but from front.

I didn't watch TWT during the past couple of days, but I was pleased to see Martine Dennis back on duty for the early-morning shift. Maybe that's just for Fridays but that kind of took me back to the good old days when she presented the show along with Tanya Beckett - now in exile in NY. It was also a surprise to find out that Sara Coburn hadn't disappeared for good. In fact it had been several months since I hadn't seen her.
Nice too to see Nik Gowing reporting from Germany. They usually take him out for the Davos Economic forum but it is pretty rare to see him outside the newsroom...
Are Martine and Sara the regular anchors for Fridays? The last times I tuned in to TWT it was always David Eads and Manisha Tank...

Looks like there was something wrong with the background screens in the WBR newsroom. Sara never talked directly to the correspondents through the plasma, but instead full shots of her and her speaker were shown successively during the full lenght of the conversation.

David Lowe has updated his site with the new countdown, but it is in a unusual format, so i converted it:BBC World Countdown 2005

MP4

Now I'm not sure if the beep is meant to be at the start or not. But I removed it. Though only in MP4 format, QuickTime Pro doesn't like to save to MP3.

Edited MP4

Brilliant, thanks guys, having listened to it in stereo, there seems to be a bit more effects to the World countdown then News 24, it comes across better in stereo then it would watching it on World itself.
