Well - the visuals are nice, but the sound is just too messy... Why so many sound effects ? It sort of wrecks it - it just sounds too busy - and in that sense, I prefer the N24 version.

What I really don't like though is that ending with the red fuzzy background and the BBC World logo and slogan. It just looks naff to me. I would have much preferred to see them focus in on the red band at the end, and then have the globe-and-ribbons logo cleverly form over the top. Apart from anything, it would have linked in much better with the rest of the channel's branding.

Also - Hyma mentioned above that they've put a reflection of the red beam on the river - yet on the final scene, with the rice paddies (I assume that's what they are), there's no reflection on the water, despite far more obvious reflections from the real elements around it.

All in all, I think the last countdown was too simple in its design, but now this one has gone a bit over the top. So, I'm just a little bit disappointed from this effort.

When the beams fly across each time, the sound you hear is that of the sound of someone sweeping ice or something like that, and they play that sound a little to much, meybe if they changed that sounds or removed it, i would think that would be pretty good.

New version of the countdown just aired. I hope this isn't the extent to the "changes"

I presume David Lowes website will have it in about 6 months then...

O.K. So theres one that ends in India and theres one that ends in China.

Where do the other two end then? I think London would be quite a good one.

A think that I diskike in the new countdown, is that the countdown does not end at the top of the hour, like it used to be the case with the previous two ones. It leads to those two or three seconds during which appear the logo and slogan of the channel, with that voiceover saying "This is BBC World - Putting news first". The previous one didn't get to 00 - it ended at 02 - but we still had the sounds of the remaining two seconds. Now the voiceover drowns them and the 00:00 doesn't mean anything, but that you're pretty closed to the very top of the hour.
It used to be easier adjusting one's watch...
