Thanks for that. I like the new countdown, especially the bit at the end with the logo. Maybe BBC News 24 should put that in.

The music's really good on it. Very funky.

Yes looks like a lot of News 24 stuff, with World's exclusive shot's filmed in China, it's very good as is News 24's countdown.

Later in the evening, we were treated to a bulletin presented by George Alagiah, live from NO. It would bave been 6pm UK time, so I assume that Network, World and N24 were all taking this feed at the same time.

Isn't George so much better suited to being out in the field, as opposed to stuck behind a desk????

Nice to hear about George Allegiah. Ithought he had simply disappeared. The last time I saw him was as a presenter for the Review 2003 Series...

my only complaint is that we only get to see a few seconds of it. The longest countdown I can recall in World history was around 34 seconds. (thats after the advent of the visual clock counting down. Prior to that - in the waving flags era - it wasn't uncommon to have the "countdown" last for up to a minute!!!!)

Well, actually the night before they introduced the countdown that has just been replaced, they aired the one with a red and yellow background and big size digits for an entire minute! (that must have been in October 2003)

I think the newest countdown's music was made by David Lowe since it really resembles the one that got replaced two years ago.

And because it's practically the same as News 24's current one Very Happy.

It is nearly, it's a mixture of News 24's countdown and the previous countdown, now like News 24 they need to revamp the headlines vamp and titles.

Exactly. A weird combination in my opinion. News 24's theme isnt so busy as World's.

I think the new countdown is brilliant . Any chance of a clean mp3?

But i am still not so keen on the current opening titles... i think they are really slow, particularly in comparison with the new countdown. A bit more dramatic headline bed with a better title sequence would do.
I still remember the good old days of World, when the whole TOTH sequence had a certain urgency and excitement, which was noticed even by average TV viewers, just like my girlfriend Very Happy

Now we have a nice beginning and a boring climax.

Accordingly, this would explain why you have failed to acknowledge the existence of the new sting, though the reasons behind your witless arrogance remain a mystery frankly not worth investigating.

JH has recently become a **** on discovereing he has gaspies and therefore can join Katherine and the like in being a wierdo with an excuse. He seems to have based his new aspies personality on myself in the sense that the most important posts are ones criticising other lesser members however being a prat he has failed to do it properly.

Why does nobody ever cap from World btw? I quite fancy seeing this new countdown. I'm hoping what with World's reputation for getting the best music it'll be good and they'll soon get a decent set of titles and vamp to go with it.

Midn if it's anything like that annoying new breakfiller then I'm not holding up much hope.

Tsk - at least credit the aspies gaspies to the right person... JH decided that new graphics and remixed music didn't constitute a new sting, so I squished him. JH couldn't possibly come up with a phrase as witty as that, however witless it may have been.

Praise be to the new countdown. Praise also be to the fact that I am drunk, and have just kicked the person I should have had sex with this evening in the boIIocks for being a racist c*nt. Hopefully, he shaln't walk for at least a week. Huzzah.

I sincerely apologise for my quoting error. It'll never happen again.

Not sure about the silly v/o woman. She sounds like one of the people who go *one one one one one one* on radio one. Otherwise very nice and I hope N24 steal the bit with the boat and the reflected news laser thingy.

That is a good part Hymagumba, I've just seen my 4th countdown and it was 41 seconds long! and it was the 3rd of the four im sure ive seen and this one was pretty much a News 24 one, apart from it showed a little bit different to another version with Dumethra Lutha i think, and it also showed during the middle of the the workers in the field.

They are not to bad although the numbers seem a bit squashed compare to news 24's.

Well - the visuals are nice, but the sound is just too messy... Why so many sound effects ? It sort of wrecks it - it just sounds too busy - and in that sense, I prefer the N24 version.

What I really don't like though is that ending with the red fuzzy background and the BBC World logo and slogan. It just looks naff to me. I would have much preferred to see them focus in on the red band at the end, and then have the globe-and-ribbons logo cleverly form over the top. Apart from anything, it would have linked in much better with the rest of the channel's branding.

Also - Hyma mentioned above that they've put a reflection of the red beam on the river - yet on the final scene, with the rice paddies (I assume that's what they are), there's no reflection on the water, despite far more obvious reflections from the real elements around it.

All in all, I think the last countdown was too simple in its design, but now this one has gone a bit over the top. So, I'm just a little bit disappointed from this effort.
