Yes, I think that TWT internationally breaks away at T + 15 for commercial breaks, whereas in the UK, David or the Duty TWT Newscaster used to hand back to the Overnight Duty Simulcast Newsreader at the N24 studio for a 3 minute round up of UK domestic news.

I don't know if this still happens, or whether David does the UK segment himself now.

Yes Sally does the same on TWT's WBR.

Moving the conversation away from acronym debate - stimulating though it clearly is - I've been meaning to bring something up for a while. I flew up to Leeds a couple of weeks ago, and as it was all on company money, I thought I'd take advantage of checking in at London Paddington and taking the Heathrow Express in, which I've not done for a while.

I was surprised to find the old 2002 countdown still being used before the pre-recorded BBC WORLD news bulletin onboard. All other graphics in use are of the standard WORLD variety - right down to the 'RECORDED' bug - so does anyone know why the old countdown is still being used?

Not sure why the old countdown is used before the Heathrow Express bulletin -- might be the case that whoever edits the countdown to the tape of the news might not have access to the new one? If anyone's interested, the Heathrow Express bulletin is recorded at 22.30 each night.

That would be a rather odd reason if it's true, but thanks for having a stab at it.

Incidentally, does anyone know if the Heathrow Express edition is the only example of a 'branded' or otherwise exclusively produced edition of BBC WORLD News?

I've been informed by a reliable source that you aren't supposed to see the countdown on the Heathrow Express. It's there as a sort of simple VT clock for the technical people at Heathrow Express who aren't using state of the art equipment. Apparently, the countdown is around 30secs, and is preceded by bars and a tone -- it cuts to the presenter at minus 3secs, who then waits for the start of the headline bed music. Hope that's interesting for you!

Got a look at the new Washington studio yesterday at 2300 on BBC World. Ian Pannell was presenting (not very good, he's far better in reporting).
It looks really good on the wide shot. The desk is a mixture between the News 24 one and the ITV News one:

The front is from News 24 and the surface is from ITV.

On the normal shot (used all throughout the programme) however it looks really poor because of the background. The image on the projection screen looks quite washed out.
Maybe they could use a wider shot with the desk in vision. That would look better IMO.

What I think is really bad is that they don't have a plasma or projection screen anymore to do interviews. Yesterday Ian Pannell interviewed someone in the Pentagon and they had to use a split screen.
That's because you always get the same boring camera shot all the time. They only use a wide shot at the beginning of the programme and a wider shot at the end when the presenter does the headline reminder.

So I'd say 6 points out of 10 from me for the new studio.

I have to agree entirely with the comments made by David Jonathan above - exactly the same thoughts were in my mind last night when I watched the self same programme. The descriptions of the desk above are very accurate, although I feel that it is better than the N24 version.

Lack of plasmas makes it look a bit of an empty studio. Although I quite like that clean cut look, I do prefer plasmas as opposed to split screens. Also agree that Ian Pannell is better out on the road, than behind a newsdesk.

Also intersting to see Nisha Pillai presenting on The World last night. I like Nisha and her style of presentation and gestures. There was a little cock up though last night when we heard Laura Trevellyan (?sp) speaking off screen acknowledging instructions received in her ear piece to "speed up" during the next to-camera segment. She duly did, and presented the next caption (about the US elections) at breakneck speed, whilst also being partially interviewed by Nisha back in London.

A few continuity slip ups on said bulletin though - at one point, Nisha was seen wtih her large shirt collars tucked inside her jacket, and then the next shot had the large shirt collars outside! Tut tut.

I far prefer Nisha to Kirsty Lang.

Does anyone else think that Martine Dennis has an uncanny resemblance to Rowetta from "The X Factor"?

Why does that sometimes happen - i.e. the overnights come from the World Studio? Is it due to regular and planned maintenance in N24 studio, or what?

LOL. Lyndsay Brancher is like Kylie................very funny. Nik Gowing is like Bono. Zeinab Badawi is like Beyonce. Nisha Pillai is Nelly Furtado.

And Anita McNaught is a dead ringer for Sinead O'Connor................hey, hang on a moment........................................

Sinead was still in a real dour mood last night. Just wish she would smile a little bit when saying farewell after the closing headlines.

Come on Martin or someone - give us a split screen comparison between Sinead and Anita.
