Kirsty Lang on last night. Oh God.................if ever there was someone who is just not suited at all to the channel, it is her.

What are the light blue bands for Hyma?

Kirsty is dreadful no matter what. Her voice, her look, her pronounciation! its shocking in one bulletin alone she pronounced 9 words wrong, thats quite alot! I really dont understand how she got the job and is even there!

I don't agree with you. Kirsty Lang is a very colorful presenter. I like her very much! I was soo happy when I saw her presenting on Monday night. It was a great suprise for me. I was expecting Mike Embley. She is presenting in a good way, not boring at all.

Lucy Hockings was reporting from the Netherlands about drug turism yesterday. It was interesting seeing her outside the newsroom.

She was indeed doing a report on French winemakers. Last month she reported on Norway's seal culling. I'm always happy to see her on tv, but there's much more to report from Holland than drugs and sperm.
That shot of the Duch parlementbuilding was taken some 500 meters from whre I work, pitty I mist it.

Is there a certain amount of time news presenters have to spend reporting, or a certain amount of pieces they have to make up? I'm always surprised to see anchors I am familiar with actually reporting on various topics, like Lucy Hockings from the Netherlands. It isn't unusual though that presenters are dispatched around the world to cover special stories - like David Eads presenting TWT from Singapore on July 4 for the selection of the city hosting the 2012 Olympics, or Lyse Doucet more recently from Palestine for the Gaza pullout, but they don't often do the job of a reporter.
Mutually, I was surprised the first time I saw Ben Brown behind the newsdesk on a Saturday morning.
I thought the two jobs required different qualifications.
What's more, it seems to me that some anchors complete more pieces than others. I've never heard a report by Nick Gowing or Nisha Pillay. As for the biz news, there are sometimes reports by Jamie Robinson or Dominic Di-Natale, but I've never seen one by Sally Bundock...

Speaking of pronounciation, I think Lyse Doucet's English is very strange too. Is this the Canadian accent or what? From my own experience I know people in Eastern Canada don't share her pronounciation.

As for Kirsty Lang, she certainly isn't my favourite presenter but I like her sometimes - in fact she's good as long as she does not become ubiquitous on this channel; showing her once a week is well enough I suppose. She might not be that good-looking, but she looks nice, always smiling, sometimes even joking . I remember when in November 2003, at the time she was the daily presenter of the 2100 CET news bulletin, after a piece about Silvio Berlusconi's recording love songs, she added " That's Christmas #1 in the making!" LOL.
