I had BBC World on with the sound off this afternoon (some people were interested in some people looking busy without doing anything), but Adrian did look like he was enjoying himself behind the desk today.
When I was watching World News at 10 GMT on Friday (which is at that point Saturday over here on mainland Europe) I noticed Katty Kay presenting again in the previous studio with the Capitol in the background. It's far more beautiful than the studio we had the last couple of weeks with that screen behind the presenter. But what is happening or what has happened? Why are they back?
EDIT: Oh, I see... that previous studio was in New York. And it's still in use as Darshini David presents the business news from there. Then there's still one question: why was World News presented from New York for the past couple of weeks?

Because Katty was on holiday and Tanya, who was standing in, lives in New York
I'm not criticising at all, but it's a funny way to run a global news channel really, when the location that a bulletin is presented from varies according to presenters' holiday arrangements.

Well, your not missing much. Since Katty and Mike Embley took over, I personally think that the uniqueness of those bulletins has gone down so I dont spend that much time waching them. Mishal and Adrian really set the standard.
But I was in Canada for a few days. CBC Newsworld shows a live world bulletin every 3 or 4 hrs. Got to see BBC World for an hr or two and enjoyed having access to it whenever i wanted to tune in. But streaming has really screwed things up. I dont care much for the new music track thats on the breakfiller. What can I say, a channel in decline
I, too, hate the new breakfiller. It has already started to get on my nerves. The old one was pretty bad, but this new one is even worse. Bring back the April 2000 one!
Thinking back, I'd say the channel was at its best between April 2000 and October 2004. There were proper, structured bulletins, a variety of presenters were used, there was a clearer weather forecast (I still can't read the new maps properly, especially on a worldwide scale as is used on BBC World), and breaks consisted of a useful breakfiller (with news/sport/business/weather headlines, set against a pleasant tune) and proper programme trailers. Much better than what we've got now.

I agree completely. I bet the morale of the staff at World is heavily down. What would really help is, if World started airing the News 24 countdowns. When you compare the sequences, you obviously realize which is worse and which is far superior. The N24 one's really show off the bbc news output in a fast paced way.

The last thing staff at BBC World worry about is whether each programme uses a proper close or whether it is called BBC news or BBC World.
They worry about audience figures, advertising sales and news coverage. By all of these criteria the channel is doing very well at the moment.
These are however some changes coming in the channel management over the next couple of months so expect to see some changes in the output in the near future, especially to the position of the on screen graphics.

Thats good news. It really is, but the channel still havent found an American cable distributor and Ariel reported that Anne Barnard hoped the channel would be out here by 2005... Ive never seen Katty appealing to viewers and urging them to contact their cable operators to add world to the line up. Bridges TV did that and have been successful thus far.

I agree with you are saying Marcus, after all BBC World has to think about the money, but really they should be promoting their core output as BBC News from BBC World, and not the other way around, it's all about image as well, this gives a good impression to clients who want to advertise with the channel, that after all is what BBC World is about, getting the clients to advertise and getting as much coverage as possible.
Can I ask why BBC Prime has no advertisements whatsoever, you would think it would be like UKTV with international ads.
