Adrian was on News 24 today too, he's been kicked off for Amreliwalla.

He probably hasn't been kicked off -- I'd imagine it's since he's been presenting on air since 08.00 this morning.

I don't think he has done every morning shift this week -- David Jessel has done a couple I think, on the occasions that I tuned in.

Good point, but I made that asumption based on the fact that News 24 was going to be screened on daytime BBC Two and they might want a 'News 24 Face' presenting?

Ah, hadn't noticed they were going on BBC One too. Yeah, that's probably a reason too.

Someone from the BBC please help - how on earth and more importantly why on earth does Rob Bonnett do BBC Breakfast and then go on to do daytime sports updates on BBC World?

Just guessing, but I would have thought it's because he earns more money this way - no other reason for him to do it really.

Yeah, doing three little sports updates per day isn't really a lot is it? On World he gets to do the afternoon sports updates most hours, plus a couple of Sport Today programmes. He doesn't do that every day -- he tends to share the afternoons with David Brenner.

Just seems a lot of hours from one who is likely to have been awake from about 3am

OK, I've got some insider info here on the situation with the World presenter rotas. Hope it's interesting.

It turns out that only four of the World presenters are actually contracted to do a specific number of days per week on a regular shift -- Nik Gowing, Martine Dennis, David Eades and Mike Embley. It works out at about 4 days per week with about 5 weeks holiday.

The rest of the presenters are quite confusing. Nisha works a number of shifts that amounts to usually 3 days per week, Lyse does 2 (in tandem with her work for World Service Radio), as does Lindsey Brancher and Adrian Finighan.

Anita McNaught, Zeinab Badawi and David Jessel are all freelancers and work as and when required. Anita apparently also does work for Radio New Zealand and some newspapers. Lucy Hockings is a World producer and presents as and when required. If things are extremely tight, apparently, they bring in people like Ben Brown or Jane Dutton.

If Geeta (who's set to return soon, BTW) and Keshini do news shifts, it's overtime, as is Brian Hanrahan and the other ones on The World.

Apparently, business is done pretty much on the same basis -- several contracted presenters (Manisha, Jamie Robertson and Sally Bundock), with the others being freelancers and filling in as and when required.

Hope that helps to answer all your questions over recent months!

Thanks itsrobert, so I guess BBC World uses more freelancers then News 24 does.

Does anyone have any pictures of this new Washington set? I tuned in to have a look this evening, only to find they are doing the co-pres from St. Louis, in the United States because of the presidential debate.

I was going to grab a few last night for the forum, but I forgot! I'll try one night next week.

Thank you very much itsrobert that was interesting to know. Glad to hear also that Bundock and Eades are staff. Very good work - enjoy your weekend! Wink

No worries -- glad it was useful to someone! I was also told that all the presenter rotas are done by one man who also schedules all the newsroom journalists as well! That must be an incredibly stressful job since so many of the presenters are contracted to do so many days per week and so many in a year with others freelancing etc!

Wow its robert, excellent piece of information. Many thanks for it. It certainly now makes more sense to me now, after watching all those years.

Seems though that Lucy has had more than her fair share of presenting as opposed to producing lately.

What about Geeta and Keshini - are they actually staff contracted to only do AT bulletins? Or freelancers?
