Buongiorno Maltese!

Yes, it was a rather bizarre cock up. First of all no sound, but Anya continued regardless with the headlines, then we got the aerial shot (prior to the usual face-on camera shot that never appeared), but this aerial shot remained with us for around twenty five seconds, still with no sound.

Then a static shot, face-on of Lucy Hockings (they must have been scrambling to replay the previous full length bulletin). That didn't work either. So, we got the emergency BBC World ident with a nice version of the theme music for around 1.5 minutes, then back to a lengthy live aerial shot of Anya again, this time with sound as she shuffled her scripts for fifteen seconds, followed by a resumption of the bulletin and an apology from Anya for the "technical problems we had just there......."

All handled very well by the on screen staff anyway, but I had always presumed that an emergency switch could be flicked to replay an old bulletin. Why wouldn't that work yesterday?

Cheers,
James

I think I've spotted the change...

Was it my imagination, or did I see a big new frosted white desk in the BBC WORLD second set on the WBR during The World Today? I've only briefly caught the screen at various points as I've been doing paperwork through the night, but I could have sworn I saw a large semi-circular desk in place of the previous "half-moon" wood desk that was there before.

...or perhaps the lack of sleep has finally caught up with me, and I imagined the whole thing.

That's absolutely right... Looks quite good in my opinion, the previous desk looked so small and uncomfortable.

I quite like the new desk and from what I have seen so far it looks much longer than the previous one.

Oh and what a shame I missed that cock-up IM never watching at the right time!

Is it like a reverse World/N24 desk or it is along the lines of the N6 one?

I'll have to have a peek at "Palestian Women Tonight" to see it.

I understand the desk has been installed ready for the overnight coverage of the UK election. It is bigger than the old one and should allow The World to do bigger discussions.

WBR and Sport Today are on in just a moment so that should give me a chance to hopefully see some more of the set... seeing that during WBR a coupld of hours ago all I got to see was a very little in a wide shot because off the astons etc being in the way Smile

Just noticed during Asia Today that they have the old transperant dog on screen as weel as the tower... and it is still on telly now with the News... Anyone no why they have this dog on??

Does anyone know if any of the other presenters (Kirsty Lang, Brian Hanrahan, Nisha Pillai, Mishal Husain) is leaving the programme? No word about that in the release.

Technically, I think, they were only ever there as relief. Good to hear Zabadawi got the job, now all we needs the old set back...I really do hate the current "look" Its cheap and nasty.

I take it Kirsty will either move over to BBC WORLD or is she leaving?

Great, she's a very talented journalist, I hope she'll continue to work for Hardtalk now and again (Stephen Sackur is not going to host the programme every day, I guess...)
