Buongiorno Maltese!
Yes, it was a rather bizarre cock up. First of all no sound, but Anya continued regardless with the headlines, then we got the aerial shot (prior to the usual face-on camera shot that never appeared), but this aerial shot remained with us for around twenty five seconds, still with no sound.
Then a static shot, face-on of Lucy Hockings (they must have been scrambling to replay the previous full length bulletin). That didn't work either. So, we got the emergency BBC World ident with a nice version of the theme music for around 1.5 minutes, then back to a lengthy live aerial shot of Anya again, this time with sound as she shuffled her scripts for fifteen seconds, followed by a resumption of the bulletin and an apology from Anya for the "technical problems we had just there......."
All handled very well by the on screen staff anyway, but I had always presumed that an emergency switch could be flicked to replay an old bulletin. Why wouldn't that work yesterday?
Cheers,
James
