What exactly now is "BBC News Extra"?
We were supposed to get an edition of it right now, but they're showing "Dreamspaces" (at least here in Germany).

Strange, in Italy we saw BBC News Extra and now the new edition of WBR. By the way, new astons for News Extra would have been appreciated.

So who presented it? Was it Mishal Husain? Did it come from the normal news set or from the WBR/Sport Today/The World set? What titles were used?

Any more details, please.

Mishal Husain was in the newsroom but the first 7-8 mins were presented by Brian Hanrahan in Rome, who spoke with David Willy about the conclave's procedure. Then Mishal presented a recorded interview by Michael Peschardt to the Australian Foreign Minister about the Australian help efforts in the tsunami affected areas. The titles were the ones we are used to seeing and the words flying around the globe were "NEWS EXTRA" (awful). The earlier edition of News Extra was still presented by Mishal Husain in the newsroom, she discussed the reactions to the death of the pope with an Orthodox priest (or something like that) and a Muslim professor (or something like that).

A few years ago, a lot of effort would have been put into ensuring a proper branding for a new programme. Now, however, everything looks the same! It's awful.

I've just thought of another presenter who now very rarely appears -- Lindsey Brancher. I think Lindsey is a fantastic broadcaster. She proved this on the morning of the handover of sovereignty to the Iraqi authorities in June 2004. She anchored the coverage all morning, and I was very impressed by her style. Sadly, she is seen very rarely on BBC World now, despite being the channel's longest-serving presenter. The same few presenters seem to be used all the time.

By the way, does anyone know what Nisha Pillai is doing now? I saw her briefly on Sunday afternoon, but since Mishal has returned, I've hardly seen her. Why was she bumped off her shift?

I've seen Nisha Pillai presenting The World more and more often in the last month.

Has anyone else seen the new programme ads for BBC World replacing (hopefully for good) the Fake interviews with correspondents?? Ive seen two now.... one with a The World Uncovered ad and a News Extra ad and Mishal Hussien is in it...

I have not yet seen News Extra yet and dont really want to if its Mishal always presenting.. I dont really like her much i'd rather see Adrian or Lindsey doing it.

BBC News Extra is just a new 10 minute cheap filler, which is practically the same as BBC World News. It just examines a story in depth. They use the same titles as the TOTH and it is presented by the on-duty presenter -- Mishal did the afternoon one, and Mike Embley did one at 22.30.

Yes, Lucy - altough very good - is a little overused right now on the channel. I agree with istrobert that it would be nice to have a bit more variety from time to time.

Well it's Darshini on now, maybe she sat in the toilet for too long. Very Happy

Yeah I have to admit I really don't like this style of presentation from BBC World and they are using the old jittery TOG, no wonder News 24 overlay their own graphics during the World News summary.

Those ads with their correspondents really do my head in, but I noticed for the first time in ages a trailer, it had the BBC World in a red square, and it was promoting a programme that was to start in April.

U mean Lucy Hockings? I sort of like her presenting.

I meant Darshini as the business presenter one hour late, well I don't mind watching Lucy, she is hot stuff.

Yeah, can't believe Lucy Hockings is on again! The poor woman must never go home! Where's Lindsey Brancher and Keshini Navaratnam these days? I remember that Lucy only used to fill-in at the weekend, but late last year, she started doing weekdays too. Because Lucy was only on at the weekend, we got more variety during the week. Sadly, that's gone now.
