Yes, adverts! That's interesting (and I'm not taking the pi55 honest!)
BBC World is governed by ITC regulations, or whatever they're called these days. IIRC, adverts cannot be shown within 30seconds of religious content being aired.

BBC World isn't broadcast in the UK so I don't think any ITC rules apply. And I'm pretty sure that the rule you state may have been misinterpreted; there's religious programming interspersed with adverts all the time on commerical terrestrial channels...

BBC World is broadcast from the UK, so must follow their rules (now OFCOM obviously)

Just had a quick look at the OFCOM site though, and yes, it looks like they have changed the rules on Religious broadcasting. It just says Broadcasters can't advertise alcoholic drinks containing 1.2 per cent alcohol or more by volume

Ah, you're right, i stand corrected!

BBC World have been doing a great job since yesterday evening: reports from all over the world, reactions of the world leaders, live in Rome, then at the Vatican, then in Krakow, then in London and then back again in Rome, and all so well paced... Such a shame they coped with the breaking news so badly at first...

Yes, I agree. Their coverage has picked up over the last 24 hours. Much better than it was on Saturday/Sunday morning.

By the way, has anyone noticed that the countdown's visuals and audio are out of sync? It's only ever so slight, but it is noticeable.

Oh God! Did you see "The World Live" on TOTH? It's a breakfiller that has been shown on Al Arabiya for the last few months and now also on BBCWorld! It's fantastic, great music, great pictures, great idea. Love it.

Would I be right in thinking its different shots all around the world, live?
I think they used it on Sky Travel for a while.

What exactly now is "BBC News Extra"?
We were supposed to get an edition of it right now, but they're showing "Dreamspaces" (at least here in Germany).

Strange, in Italy we saw BBC News Extra and now the new edition of WBR. By the way, new astons for News Extra would have been appreciated.

So who presented it? Was it Mishal Husain? Did it come from the normal news set or from the WBR/Sport Today/The World set? What titles were used?

Any more details, please.

how long has BBC World used "The World Live" and how exactly does the sequence go?

I've just seen it for the first time this afternoon. It's basically a montage of live camera shots from various cities around the world, with accompanying weather details. Quite effective as a filler -- better than those "Just A Moment" sequences used a couple of years back.

Mishal Husain was in the newsroom but the first 7-8 mins were presented by Brian Hanrahan in Rome, who spoke with David Willy about the conclave's procedure. Then Mishal presented a recorded interview by Michael Peschardt to the Australian Foreign Minister about the Australian help efforts in the tsunami affected areas. The titles were the ones we are used to seeing and the words flying around the globe were "NEWS EXTRA" (awful). The earlier edition of News Extra was still presented by Mishal Husain in the newsroom, she discussed the reactions to the death of the pope with an Orthodox priest (or something like that) and a Muslim professor (or something like that).
