Anya broke the news at about 20.58 BST
I have nothing against Anya Sitaram and I don't know how she handled the situation because I wasn't watching but... On Saturday morning we saw Lucy Hockings and in the afternoon Nisha Pillai and Mishal Husain (who are not usually on air during the weekends ), so why not continue with an expert broadcaster in the evening as well? Shame that Adrian Finighan and Mike Embley (who, in my opinion, is the best presenter on World) have never been on air in the last few days... I don't think that Anya is a bad presenter, but when the news is so important I would like to see the best broadcasters in the newsroom...
Indeed, Adrian Finighan is usually on during the weekend evenings, and he would have been much better than Anya last night. I was surprised they didn't bring Nik Gowing in, to be honest. They usually do in these circumstances. The only reason I can think of is that most of the coverage was shared with News 24, so there wasn't a great deal for the on duty N9 presenter to do.
Yet, Anya Sitaram found herself announcing the death of the pope to the world. Hope she handled the situation well...
Anya did very well
Bear in mind that there was no warning of the final announcment. It could have come anytime over the weekend or even into next week. Everyone was assuming they the death would be announced in a press statement. In fact it was announced on Vatican radio. As soon as it was confirmed by two sources it was broken by Anya.
Yes I was hoping to see Adrian on but no!.... but anyway I would like somebody to shot me please! I am getting very sick of seeing Lucy Hocking on world at the moment.. Everytime I turn on its her!
If they need a reliever which is likely she has been doing during the week why not give us Adrian for crying out loud! and give Adrian fridays on TWT not Lucy... I just dont like her anymore and she swings round to much.
I know, it's ridiculous. Adrian is one of the best presenters on the channel, and has been there for 10 years, yet he hardly gets any shifts. I'm sick of seeing the same presenters over and over again. Bring Adrian back!
I'm glad to see that Nik Gowing has been called in this afternoon. 18 hours or so too late, but still, it's something!
