Nice to see the 'old' longer stings before and after the commercial break on BBC World during the 16:00 GMT bulletin. I guess that is because all regions had an ad break at that moment?

Yeah, doesn't it look and feel a lot better? I hate those short stings which chop in randomly! I'd much prefer them to go back to the old stings.

I agree there, if I had it my way we would still have the old style presentation.

Indeed it looks and sounds a lot better. What's the main reason those longer stings have been abandoned? Is it because of the flexible ad break system which allows commercial breaks on different times across the world? Or perhaps the stings are too long which make people to grap their remote? Or is there another reason I forgot?

For sure is that the old stings made the channel more authoritive. Besides, they had a positive effect on the branding of the channel: longer music, longer 'BBC NEWS' on screen. People are still thinking during stings about what they saw during the programme or what's still on their personal agenda today... Stings allow BBC World to get back the viewers attention and reflect what they just saw (before a break).

The Breakfast titles were played twice this morning on BBC WORLD - with Dermot presenting from Rome. They was played at 0600 GMT and 0700 GMT. Was this a mistake? The overnights were using special titles for the sad event - weren't they supposed to have been in use during the time in question?

Overnight ( well 1 o'clock at least ) BBC News with Karmin Glinole didn't use any titles, just the headlines read out in silence, then cut back to Karmin.
Did breakfasts titles use the same music or was it adapted to the situation?

I have nothing against Anya Sitaram and I don't know how she handled the situation because I wasn't watching but... On Saturday morning we saw Lucy Hockings and in the afternoon Nisha Pillai and Mishal Husain (who are not usually on air during the weekends ), so why not continue with an expert broadcaster in the evening as well? Shame that Adrian Finighan and Mike Embley (who, in my opinion, is the best presenter on World) have never been on air in the last few days... I don't think that Anya is a bad presenter, but when the news is so important I would like to see the best broadcasters in the newsroom...

Indeed, Adrian Finighan is usually on during the weekend evenings, and he would have been much better than Anya last night. I was surprised they didn't bring Nik Gowing in, to be honest. They usually do in these circumstances. The only reason I can think of is that most of the coverage was shared with News 24, so there wasn't a great deal for the on duty N9 presenter to do.

Indeed, in my opinion coverage on BBC World today has been substandard. I can understand that sharing output with News 24 makes sense, but the way in which they handled it was just plain annoying: joining and leaving News 24 mid-sentence, opening titles that clash with TOG, breakfast titles being shown around the globe, more than a reasonable number of cuts to the wrong feed, etc.
But worse of all, in the few moments they produced from the World newsroom they failed to make a real contribution with hardly any in-depth analysis or interviews. Exceptional circumstances demand exceptional people and although I greatly respect Lucy and Anya, I feel that Nik, Mike, Adrian or Lyse should have taken over, even if the majority of output was simulcast.

Anya did very well

Bear in mind that there was no warning of the final announcment. It could have come anytime over the weekend or even into next week. Everyone was assuming they the death would be announced in a press statement. In fact it was announced on Vatican radio. As soon as it was confirmed by two sources it was broken by Anya.
