Is BBC World currently airing a joint service bulletin? I ask because we're not getting the normal rotating globe tower at the moment, but the block image that gets used to cover up the N24 tower on overnights...
I wasn't watching at the time, but my guess is no. When TOG crashes, they use the static tower instead.

That's what I would have thought - but the tower, astons and ticker are all generated from the same system aren't they? And the astons and ticker were fully operational - the animations were all there as usual... I was under the impression Big Ted just faded the astons on and off...
Essentially there are two systems in use, TOG which generates live titles, the animated aston, and the animated station identification, they also use Big Ted to put graphics like the financial board up, now when TOG goes bellies up, World pres will put the non animated station identifier and the astons would be driven by Big Ted (this was the old system for many years.).
The great thing is now, we can clearly tell who is operating the TOG(due to the different versions of TOG currently in operation), for example we now know that BBC News 24 are the ones generating the TOG during the 9.30 summary from the World Newsroom, the only astons that would pop up are Big Ted ones.
Also another great thing about TOG is that on the clear feed used internally, the TOG of course never shows up, so presumably this means that TOG is not actually operated in the gallery, but presumably somewhere close?
Just before 2100 GMT a 59secs countdown appeared. Unfortunately it remained stopped for a few moments, then the countdown began (great music) but at 51secs remaining it was cut and Mike Embley started with the headlines.
There must have been a ventilator or something like that in the newsroom today, Geeta Guru-Murthy's papers were about to fly away. By the way I like her; at first I found her a little disorientated in front of the camera, but she's not. Today she has handled a lot of stories very well, she has been great, easy-going and beautiful.

TOG is operated in the gallery. Its output is added post mixer. You should learn about Down Stream Keying.
Something very weird just happened at the end of the21.00GMT opening sequence.. the main theme appeared to slow down (or "drop by a semitone" for the musical!) just as it reached the end note..
I'm amazed if they're playing out from an analogue source so I could only assume it was something of a digital nature (sample rate etc) maybe somewhere between London and my local tv provider! Just wondering whether anyone else heard it?

Thanks Dog for the reply, I would learn about it, but I don't think my experience as a web developer would be of much use in the cutting edge world of broadcast technology,

Goto Google. Type in something like 'vision mixing dsk' and press return.

It's not exactly difficult.
Yes I know I can do that, but no point of aquiring the knowledge, as I am not going to put it to pratical use if you know what I mean.
