"Some have also asked what will happen to our popular weather presenters and it comes as no surprise to me that the BBC have adopted them as their own."

So will they *all* be staying on then?

I think most of the MetOffice employees who weren't being taken on directly by the BBC have already left.

I like it. Few tweaks here and there, but not as disastrous as I had imagined.

I like, it's not as if Meteogroup have dismissed their history, they've gone with it. As for putting Shetland in a box, that simply wouldn't work as the source and display is geoid based as is every Meteogroup map. It's a modern look. It's pleasant to see a Mercator style projection or close to it being used on TV for the first time in ages too.

It freshens everything up but really just feels like the BBC lining up with everyone else. Back to green map, dark blue background, and a flat map, as seen mostly everywhere else. Not much in the way of innovation here. I take it the weather in the globe from the start of the forecast has been dropped?

For comparisons purposes here are BBC, ITV & C5. The BBC's blocky place names do cover up too much which ITV / C5 manage to avoid.

Aside from the map being a bit small, the proportions of the British Isles look slightly odd to me, a bit narrow and possibly a bit top heavy. However it's good to get back to a green map after years of brown, though not as nice as the maps used from 2000-2005. I think we could probably do without the place names altogether, they seem to clutter the map, and we managed without them before 2005.

That's Mercator for you.

The last maps annoyed Scotland, these new ones will annoy Wales. Half the country is obscured by Birmingham!

All of Essex is also obscured as is a decent part of the south coast.

The country does seem a bit strangely proportioned, very little if the map actually seems to be land, but that might be because we are used to the tilted view.

It looks pretty awful to be honest. How can going from 3D graphics to a 2D map be a change for the better?? The map is far too low down - the weather forecaster was literally stooping to point out London. It is also too small - a slight tilt on the map would rectify this - ITV seem to have a fantastic map and clear graphics at the moment - a good balance of size and detail and certainly the best map out of the 3 shown above. At least you can see what is going on on the ITV map. The BBC seems to have covered over vast parts of the map with labels to tell us where we live??

I have felt sorry for people who live in Trawsfynydd for at least 13 years now as their weather forecast has been covered over by a Birmingham label. it is even worse for them now - with a solid dark blue label covering over where they live. How they can tell the weather there is anyone's guess - apart from stepping outside for some fresh air - but even so, the BBC should not cover over parts of the map with labels. It shows lack of respect for the people who live there.

Also, why is the BBC showing us vast parts of Europe?? No wonder the UK map is small. I'm sure they could cut some of that out.

Did all the regions have live lunchtime forecasts or was it just some? I noticed Simon King presented North Wests’s. Is that normal? Dan Holley presented Look East’s which is unusual at lunchtime as it is normally covered by the weather hub in London.

I thought Wales looked in proportion during the Wales Today forecast at lunchtime.

London's was pre-recorded.
