It looks like Meteo Group don’t get noted on all forecasts. So far I’ve seen a news channel forecast where they appeared on an end board as such.

Has anyone seen the Channel Islands anywhere? They seem to have gotten lost under the rain and snow.

To be honest, the weather conditions we currently have are going to obscure them somewhat but the boxed place names are covering up parts of the islands and so are the temperature boxes.

In the North West this evening, Dianne had some real difficulties with the graphics, starting off the forecast by going straight to the end, and then for some reason later on in the forecast the map had shifted left showing the whole of the North of England and leaving the Isle of Man completely obscured by Dianne.

I like the new on-screen TV graphics, but my only criticism is the temperature indicators. I think they were much better in full colour. From a colour psychology point of view, it's much easier to get a feel for the temperature at a glance rather than having to read the numbers.

If you take the numbers away you can clearly understand how cold/warm it will be with just colour on the old map compared to the newer one:

I feel like it probably will be better when the temperatures are warmer and the small coloured bars below the numbers are in yellow and orange but the current blue and green palette used for the colder temperatures just blend into the new green map. Time will tell...

It's nice not to see the scorched land anymore - I imagine that and the south bias were probably the two biggest bugbears when asking any focus groups so it makes sense for them to be addressed.

There's a lot to like about it, the intro animation into a Weather Watcher photo looks good and the graphics are clear. I think C4 have the country in a better position though and the block town names are far too big. Presumably done for the benefit of online but to the detriment of the TV broadcast (and Wales!)

And here's what we thought on launch day 2005... https://tvforum.uk/thenewsroom/weather-forecast-14620/page-26

Also, why is the BBC showing us vast parts of Europe?? No wonder the UK map is small. I'm sure they could cut some of that out.

A combination of Mercator and widescreen means it's unavoidable, unless you stretch the UK sideways!

The weather maps from the early 00s also showed the same part of Europe - if you were watching in full widescreen. Less on 14:9 and hardly any in 4:3.

Was watching World Weather at 21:26 on the BBC News Channel with Susan Powell. It appeared to use Reith for the place names. Available until 23:26 on iPlayer.

I wouldn't be so sure. If they keep the map green then the hotter temperatures and the red lines do indeed show more prominently as it does here in the Asia-Pacific online forecast.

But as soon as they change the map colours to reflect the temperature scales then it straight away becomes very hard to see once again.

One other thing to note that I don't think has been mentioned before. In terms of the weather symbols, the thunder weather symbol is now no longer yellow/orange and is now blue in colour. The orange/yellow colour was better as both rain and thunder now are both coloured blue.

Maybe we should all turn our TV to portrait for the weather forecast. Very Happy

Oh no, that’s not great either! I’d say something like a solid colour temperature indicator with an extreme faint shadow behind or white border would be much more effective!

And as for the thunder icon, that’s a crazy change! Why would they do that!

That's only useful in relative terms, and even then not very. How are you supposed to remember, day-to-day, whether that shade of yellow is 15 degrees or 20?

I have the same issues as others do but one thing bugging me is the day aston bottom right. Just doesn't look right IMO. Probably the dead space in order to unnecessarily make the day 4:3 safe.

With Sports graphics now in the 16:9 area I wonder if the BBC will be adapting that when they rebrand the channels or introduce Reith corporation wide? Surely keeping things 4:3 safe is a bit much in this day and age?
