Also expect major changes and very new set as the revamp period will last for four to five weeks.

To be fair that might just be as they're adding in the PAT testing of lighting equipment, reflooring, deep cleaning etc...

Midlands Today's new set was done after a total clean out, replacement of some equipment and so on - it's a perfect chance to do it, when they do these things they design them to last years - so it's important to make any important changes now while the set's not struck than do it later down the line and make mistakes with a £40,000 new set.

Indeed. I may be wrong but maybe there are rehearsals after that, if there are chances of a format change to the programme.

Generally speaking they'll have better/newer shots to play with a new set anyway, if they use LCD panels to form a backdrop they'll need to rule out which shots they can't ever use due to the change in contrast and viewing angles of the screens.

I'd assume Newyddion is also in the same temporary set too?

Yep, they are:

Looks better when Newyddion is there! Still not nice, but better!

Pretty decent looking studio considering it's temporary. Nice to see they haven't gone down the cheap and easy route of a CSO/virtual studio for the next few weeks.

is that the studio that was used for Newsnight Wales?

The backing panels look like part of the same set, no idea if it is in the same studio or not.

Wales Today and Newyddion are coming from C4, usually home of Scrum V, while C2 is upgraded and revamped. The main reason for getting a new set I would imagine is because Newyddion is moving to a new 9pm slot in April, under S4C boss Ian Jones' plans to have Newyddion as an 'anchor' (as he put it) for the nightly schedule.

Newsnight Wales only lasted for a relatively brief period didn't it, unlike Newsnight Scotland?

Virtual isn't cheap (if you don't already have it) or easy though... For a few weeks, a real set is likely to be a lot easier and cheaper, particularly if you have a kit of parts.
