Katherine this would be a brilliant opportunity to try the weather again. Nicky's presentation explains how the weather has to be done from memory, along with the graphics, with a countdown from 10 as you hand back to the newsdesk. You would go through the graphics with Darren, have a quick rehearsal and then the show is live. No time to be nervous..

LIVE? As in LIVE] LIVE? On telly? when I did that weather thing, I was totally utterly useless to the point of pants.... mind you, I actually DID fancy Darren for about three weeks in 1995.....

Try YouSendIt - just type in your own e-mail address, then post up the link and it should be available to download from their site for a few days at least.

Here you go.

I'm not sure its worth the wait, but it was fun to do. Watch your ears for the squealing feedback when my (10 year old) co presenter did his headline.

The goodie bag was nice, too.

Very nice work Gavin (and 10 year old kid), bar the feedback and background ambience. What's with the audio (or lack of it until the end!) by the way in the right channel?

Shame I missed it when it was down in London. If only I had read this thread before the 30th I could have planned to go on Friday or Saturday - why didn't they do 2 days at London like all the other places? Confused

Problem is all the other places are pretty far from where I am, so this year is pretty much out of the question.

The presenting and technical stuff sounds fun to do - I certainly wouldn't mind trying my hand at it. Any dates for next year?

What's the stuff they give you in the goodie bag? Didn't give you a CD full of BBC News music did they? Laughing

1) a booklet called The Basics, about career opportunities and the "Six basic values we all [the BBC] aspire to".

2) a video recording of doing the radio thing. Everone who participated got to take a tape away.

3) a card with contact details for BBC recruitment.

4) a BBC News lanyard with a badge identifying that I was volunteering to try out.

5) an 'Access all areas' style pass with information on work experience programmes on the reverse.

6 ) 'BBC News on tour' pen.

Stupid question alert: I believe I read somewhere that you can have a go at making the graphics and stuff for the news (from the BBC News Online photo gallery it looked like they were making a map) - does this mean you can have a go on the software that powers News 24?

Not only the software (disappointly the Adobe holy trinity of Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects) but the machine (an iMac ) nicked from the graphics area in N8, which I'd like it back sometime.
Anyone want to come and chat about N24 graphics I'll be on the stand next weekend in Birmingham...

I got a postcard of that picture of the BBC News team, The Basics as Gavin mentioned, and the BBC recruitment contact numbers card.

I was also one of te few who bothered to visit the online team, as everyone else wanted a shot of reading the news. I had my photograph taken and added to a BBC News online article, with me becoming the new British Prime Minister. Yeah, like that's ever going to happen !!

Did you not try out the BBC News 24 studio. And if you do, do you get a video of that?
