Yes, despite my comments above, he suddenly turns up on BBC World feeding live from Baghdad. So, he still is around! (referring to Mr. Witchell)
On the preceding post, I don't think it would be possible to have a different presenter on the Ten each night. What would they all do during the rest of the week??
Also, depsite your opening comments about Moira and Phil, you missed Moira out of the line up entirely!
The reason for missing Moira out is because it is highly unlikely she will get on a main bulletin on BBC1. ( I don't like that - but that's the reality - she is IMO one of the best at the BBC )
On the subject of having a different presenters on the Ten, it could work.
' BBC WORLD ' - I would imagine the one not presenting would still have a lot of work to do. On ITV 1 Trevor McDonald presents the ITV News at Ten Thirty, but not every night, however he is still there on the day he is not presenting ( but that may be because he is one of the programmes editors ).
Well I noticed that Nick Witchell - as he seems to be referred to - is ' World Affairs Correspondent '
Nicholas has a number of briefs - he is still Royal Correspondent (the other two are Peter Hunt and June Kelly - although June doesn't do that full time). Nick is also a World Affairs/Diplomatic Correspondent. But he is one of those correspondent's who has so much experience that he can be sent anywhere - hence why he went to Boscastle when it flooded, hence he was the main correspondent on the Soham murders trial, the Kelly Inquiry etc etc. As to Baghdad lots of correspondents are sent their for a month or two. Caroline Hawley is the only permanent correspondent in Iraq - she is Baghdad correspondent.
I know there is the Tony Blair story, but the Ten is never extended for other major events. And Huw made no reference to the longer programme - is this going to be a regular thing.
The regional news didn't start till 10.35, and in Scotland 10.40.

The Ten is extended when their are major stories like these. The ITV News at 10.30 is also extended, according to the announcer before it.
This news came out bang on 10pm, which I think, and those in the know might be able to confirm, was because of the Hartlepool by-election, and the announcement could distort the poll, therefore breaching the Representation of the People Act, so the news was embargoed by media organisations until the polls in Hartlepool closed at 10pm.
