Incase anyone is wondering, Bev Thompson announced on the 6:30 bulletin that Geoff is currently 'very poorly in hospital'. There are no details as to the cause of his illness but I wish him well and hope he gets better soon.

Letters, e-mails and phone calls poured into BBC South East Today after viewers learned that Geoff Clark had been taken ill.

Geoff - whose absence from South East Today immediately prompted enquiries and good wishes from his many fans - was taken into Maidstone Hospital on Wednesday 6 April suffering from pneumonia.

He joined South East Today last October where his combination of professionalism and cheeky sense of humour rapidly made him a vital part of the BBC team and obligatory viewing in Kent and East Sussex.

Geoff's co-presenter Beverley Thompson said: "Geoff's told us the medical staff at Maidstone Hospital are fantastic, but the sooner they let him out, the better.

"We want him back on air just as soon as he's fit and well again."

So far, doctors have given no firm date for Geoff's return to the 6.30pm hot seat - currently filled by colleagues Rob Smith and Ian Palmer - because he'll need time to recover his strength after such a serious illness.
