Here's a picture (which I've posted before) of the studio without the projectors or lighting on. You can see that it would be very unlikely for the screen to be movable.
The ones with Anna Ford are from the day of the relaunch and the ones with Matthew Amroliwala are from Februar 2004. They show that the Background is much more washed out today than it was by the time of the relaunch. They really need to change the projection screens. The studio really doesn't look good with anymore.
On the 50 years of BBC TV News DVD you can clearly see that the screens are at an angle from the red wall. Furthest from the back wall the screen edge is flush with the wall, but closest to the back wall the edge stands out by a good 6 inches.

Nice feature having the special report before the headline update thus allowing the two (G&S) to be seated while the camera pans down after the regional headline hand-over, it also seemed the programme had a more in-depth feel to it. Personally I liked it and even managed to watch Geogre for the entire programme.
Just out of interest what is it with sometimes having an update of the headlines at half-past and somedays not, does my head in.

I think its due to time. If they finish really early, like 6:27, they'll remind us on the headlines but if they dont finish till 6:29, they need to rush to get the Regional news shows on.
